DSLR images not showing up on mobile

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a combination of images taken from an iphone and DSLR camera on my blog. Both types of images are visible on a computer, but only the iphone images are visible on mobile. I have optimized the images to less than 10 MB. What suggestions do you have?

  • Hi,

Do you have a specific example post you could link to that is exhibiting this issue?

    Hello,
Yes, my most recent post – Montana, You Got Me – Part 1 – does not seem to be showing all of its images on mobile. I am able to see the images on a computer, however I cannot see them on a phone and have received reports from others most of the images at the end of the post are not downloading. These are images in a tiled gallery, towards the bottom of the post. Most of these images were taken with a DSLR camera. They are all PNG images and are all less than 10MB. I have checked that I have enough storage.

I don’t know how to fix the issue, any suggestions are welcomed.
    Thank you.

  • Hi,

I checked your post and found out that the gallery is within a Classic block (the old editor), so that’s why they don’t properly show up on mobile.

To fix that, you have to remove them from the Classic block and reinsert them using the Tiled Gallery block.

If you have any other questions, just let me know, and I’ll be happy to help.

Thank you, the Classic Block editor keeps showing up automatically on my post. I’m guessing I hit something accidentally, but I don’t know how to change that. If you can suggest how to change that, that would be great. Thank you!

There’s no way to set the Classic Editor as the default anymore. The only way you would be able to choose the Classic block is by selecting that block by clicking the Plus sign in the editor and searching for it when you’re composing a post or typing /classic in the post editor and choosing it that way.

Are you copying an old post into a new one? If so, it would bring over any existing blocks/formatting from that older post.

If you’re manually writing out new posts, can you walk us through how you’re writing your content and how you’re adding blocks and galleries? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

    Thanks!

I’m manually writing everything into the posts and in some cases copying some text from Word into the post. I don’t think I’ve paid much attention when I copy/paste text from Word as to how it sets up a block and in what format.

For images, I have been attempting to use the Tiled Gallery. I select that from using the plus side on the left side of the page and then continue with the process from there to upload pictures. I had been fiddling with the Slideshow Gallery and ended up deleting that. I have noticed that for the first group of tiled images, the Classic block editor popped up and then that continued for the rest of the post.

The problem is that all I can see in my post is Classic editor. I can’t figure out how to get to Gutenberg. And full disclosure, I’m still learning as much as I can about WordPress, so some of this is a bit new to me.
Thanks so much for your help with this!

Can you take a screenshot of your editor so we can better advise how to fix the problem?

If you’re not familiar with how to take a screenshot, this support document will help explain how to make one:

    Take a Screenshot

Then, use a service like Snipboard.io to upload the screenshot and then share the image link from that service here and we’ll take a closer look.

    Thanks!

I’m not sure if I did this correctly, but…

The top link shows a difference in the editor, if I am seeing this correctly. The bottom link is right at the insert point to where I have the tiled gallery and something changes. I am continuing to try to change it, but I can still only insert through Classic editor. And again, I am trying to do this through the “+” sign at the top left side of the screen. Please advise if there is another method I should use. Thanks again for your help!

Thanks for that! That helps a lot. :)

In this image, you’re already in the Block Editor.

The bottom link is right at the insert point to where I have the tiled gallery and something changes.

So the content in that block was added to the Classic Block within the Block Editor. To switch it to use Blocks instead, click the “Convert to blocks” button and it should take any content in that Classic Block and turn it into blocks. The toolbar for the Classic Block is very similar to what the old Classic editor used, which can cause that confusion.

So whenever you see that “convert to blocks” message in the future, you can go ahead and click that to convert it to blocks so you can have everything using the Block Editor (aka Gutenberg).

    I hope that clarifies things!

That definitely clarifies it, thank you so much! However, I keep clicking on “convert to blocks” and nothing is happening, it’s still stuck in Classic. I’m also selecting the text/images and that is not changing anything. Is there something else I should be doing?
    Thanks!

  • Hmm, I see what you mean. I suspect the gallery is so big it’s taking up too much memory to show on mobile AND it’s not able to break into blocks.

We could try to confirm that, but I suspect the best bet will be to just copy and paste the content out into normal blocks. We can help with that if you’d like. Let us know.

Also, regarding the gallery, even in blocks, that’s still going to be quite a bit to load on a single page on mobile. We can address that though if going to blocks still leaves some issues.
