dual authentication issues

    Is there any way to be able to not have my question found in google since this is apparently a public forum? I don’t get to delete it later, i guess.

    My question is why does the 2 step authentication process say that if I later change devices and can’t get the Authenticator app to work I can’t get in without the backup codes? Why did it state when I first added the option to use the Authenticator app that the phone number was needed in case I can’t get in with the authenticator app? It doesn’t say that in the FAQ I later found for your use of the Authenticator app here that i can do anything but use the Authenticator backup codes. Those could get lost too if my computer dies. I saved them on the computer.

    I also don’t understand why the phone app doesn’t also have dual authentication requested.

    An authentication app can be used across multiple devices as long as you have the login credentials. If you change phones unexpectedly, you could run in to issues with not having SMS access any longer (because the number would be different).

    As long as you do not loose access to the email address associated with your WordPress.com account we can continue to help you get back in with the event of an authentication issue.
