Dumb Question of the day: personal plan versus premium plan
-
So I am using wordpress for my website (wix is buggy). I am a storyteller and public speaker who occasionally gets paid gigs (I have a day job because I am no fool).
The question is, if I upgrade do I have to have the premium plan when I don’t really need all the stuff that is in the premium plan? My site is a ‘Hey I am here this is what I do and this is when my next gig is’ kind of site. No bells and whistles. And if I read the ToS right (got the ‘treat’ and everything) use of Paypal is okay no matter what the upgrade and it is okay to promote myself so long as I don’t use outside platforms.
Am I right? Is Personal kosher? Or do I have to be special and go to Premium.

Hi there,
No such thing as dumb questions! :) The pricing list here breaks down the features available in each plan: https://wordpress.com/pricing/ If the Personal plan has everything you need for your site, you are not required to update to Premium.
You can add a Paypal button to your sidebar, no matter what plan your site is on. Here are instructions on how to do so: https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

Even if what I have is ostensibly a small business site, Sarah? The legalize is clearer than most but I just want to be totally sure on that. (I’m a Canuck – we tend to be careful – not cheap, mind – by nature).
Thank you!

No problem! The Premium and Business upgrades are highly recommended, but not required, for business sites. Here’s a good rundown of the various features that WordPress.com offers in the Premium and Business plans. These bundles of features may be helpful in the future as you grow your business: https://wordpress.com/business/
No matter what plan you settle on, here are some tips here that might also help with optimizing your WordPress.com site as a Business site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/making-a-business-website/
