I seem to have a duplicate account. I need to close this one because I need to use this email address ((email visible only to moderators and staff)) on my existing WordPress site that is currently linked to an email I no longer use ((email visible only to moderators and staff))

It appears that you have deleted the WordPress.com user account that you were posting from. I’m going to assume that you have sorted out your deletion situation. If not, please feel free to contact us again.

I deleted the account that’s tied to the email address I want to use. Now, when I go to my original account it won’t let me use that email. Do I have to wait 30 days to be able to use it with my original WP account?

Yes, there is a 30-day holding period on email addresses for deleted accounts.
Have you thought about using a gmail alias? Instead of using this:
yourrealemail (at) gmail (dot) comUse this:
yourrealemail+otheraccount (at) gmail (dot) comYou can make that +1, +whatever, +doesnotmatter … whatever letters or numbers make the most sense to you. Gmail will ignore the plus sign and anything after it. But we won’t, so it’s in effect a second email account that delivers to the same address.

I just tried setting that up, with “(email visible only to moderators and staff)” [edited to redact address]. I’m still getting an error message. It says “That method is not allowed”

Had the same error message.
Here’s what I’ve done: Went into my gmail settings, then under “accounts and import” I added [the address with a plus]. Then, I went back to WordPress and added that email, and still got the same error message. Am I doing something wrong?

No spaces or anything. Also we’ll want to remove these visible hints at your email address as soon as it’s working, so let us know when that’s done.

Yep, tried it again. Never had any spaces. Feel free to delete my message above with the email hints.
When I tried it again I got two error messages.
The first one is “That method is not allowed’
and the second one is “We couldn’t load our concierge schedule. Please try again later.’ -
How strange. Would you mind if we try it from our end? Also, to confirm, are you changing it here?

I’ve just tried that here and while I didn’t get the error message, you should now have a pending email change confirmation. Can you check your address for that? I’m also going to go ahead and redact other items that could reveal your address.
