duplicate an existing blog

I have a music blog of tango music and I know, there is much interest in this music in Germany. The current blog http://tickledtango.wordpress.com/
is in English and I would like to translate it into German. The easiest way to do this, I thought, is to duplicate the English version and then translate it. This way, I can safe time for the setting up of the blog, which was quite tricky.
Any idea or other solutions? thanksThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That is the easiest way. Use the category English on the English posts and German on the German posts and use a category page and a custom menu to put them in your header: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/

Oh, you have to manually create it, configure it with the header, etc, add widgets, and then add the posts one by one. There is no automatic way to do this.

I was afraid you would say this.
I hoped there was just a tiny button which I have not noticed, yet…
and you would tell me about it and I could just click it and… all done.Bugger!

You can import the posts from the old blog, but they’ll be in the original language, so that doesn’t help you at all.

@raincoaster, The original Poster seems to be more concerned about duplicating the formatting, widgets, header, background colour, and so on. She says she can translate the article herself.
how do I duplicate an entire blog so that I can translate the duplicate?
It’s been a while since I exported and imported a blog so I cannot remember if all of those things transfer or not???

and yes, 1tess is correct… I just want to duplicate the whole blog, including its structure, which is in my case a structure of pages, the posts are not important to me …

Your page structure should transfer just fine. Just make sure the second blog is set up with Yoko before you import the xml file. You may have to re-activate your widgets, but that is not difficult.
I’d say just give it a try! The second blog is free, and the export/import procedure is easy enough to carry out. You have nothing to fear…

Set up the second blog with the same theme (Yoko). Then:- Log into the old blog, go to Tools → Export, and download the XML (WXR) file to your computer.
- In the new blog, go to Tools → Import → WordPress, and upload the file you downloaded in step 1.
On the second blog, I’d advise you to set the privacy settings to block search engines or to be private until you get the pages translated. Search engines do not like duplicate content and both blogs could be penalized because of it.

What is the xml file? and how do I import it?so far, I would create another blog under my name,
as you said I would make sure that I select the same theme,but now, what’s next???

Ooopps! Sorry, at 4 a.m. when I was answering your question I missed that the site you want to translate is http://tickledtango.wordpress.com/ and it is using the Freshy theme, not the site using the Yoko theme.
Freshy has been retired but as long as you are adding the second blog to your account you’ll still be able to activate and use it. New accounts and new users aren’t able to use retired themes. When a theme is retired its features and functions may not be upgraded to the latest bells and whistles the newer themes have—it will still work though perhaps it won’t display as well on phones and tablets.

yes, it is a Tango site… and there is a strong Tango scene in Germany and by offering them a German blog, I though I could catch them.
Perhaps, before I perform the duplication, I will change the retired theme with a current one… would you know a theme with similar features? I like the Yoko, but it has no side widget bar.

Yoko does have a sidebar. In fact you can have 2 sidebars on Yoko if you like! You have a pages widget in the sidebar of your other blog.

Yoko is widget-tastic. Widget-licious? Maybe. It has two widget areas for your widgets giving you a three-column or two-column theme — with your content always displayed promininntly — depending on your choice.
As for advice on which theme to use, take a look at previews to get a feel for how your content would look wearing a new theme:
