duplicate categories in two different menus – how to delete

I have two menus that I inadvertaly put the same title to categories in eaxh, I am unable to figure out how to remove the duplicate categories from one of the menus.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. Either you fixed the problem or I am unable to see it.

Are you referring to the duplicate page menu that is both on top and on the sidebar?

No, on the side bar, underneath both “articles” and “bonsai Experience” you’ll see duplicate categories, for example, bonsai exhibits and shows under both, I only want those under bonsai experience and need to delete them from “articles”

Your “Bonsai Experience” widget apperas to be a custom menu widget and your “Articles” widget appears to actually be a categories widget.

To do what you’re asking (exclude certain categories from a widget), you need to delete your categories widget, create a second custom menu, and add it as a custom menu widget called “Articles”.

You’ve got way too many posts and images on your main page for me to waste my limited internet bandwidth on, so all I can do is hazard a guess.

If you used custom menu widgets, for all those, then just edit those custom menus, click on the right end of the category you want to remove and it will open. Then click the “remove” button and then click the “save menu” button.

Oh yeah, and also go to settings > reading and reduce the number of posts to show on a page to maybe something like 3 or 5. Your site is so slow loading that no matter how compelling the site was I would probably not wait around for it to load on my wireless internet connection.

    Thanks for the advice.

When I change my # of posts displayed to three, I notice that under my categories then there are only three displayed as well, even though these are summaries. Is there a way to make my recent posts that are displayed on the front page a summary listing as well, instead of the full posts?

You could use the “more” tag to split content and only display the first few lines of an article:

By the way, you now have two “categories” widgets. Not sure if that’s what you wanted or if it’s a work in progress.

Thanks, that “more” tag will sovle the problem of my articles being long and image intensive…without having to limit posts shown to just a few.

I am hoping that using two category widgets will work, allowing me to divide articles from other posts.

Update, the use of two categories wigets will not work I see, as they both display the same categories. What I am attempting to do is to create another widget that will list out separate categories. One widget for articles only and another that I can put some galleries in.

I tried using a custom widget, but it picked up categories from the articles widget that I could not remove.
