Duplicate comments

When I come to reply to comments I am often advised, words to the effect. ‘you have said that before’ or ‘duplicate post’. However nothing is shown in the post itself. This happens through the ‘notifications’ facility, the post (reply) and the drop down notification gizzmo. What am i doing wrong or what should I be doing that I am not?

Unfortunately the system takes all your comments into account, not just the comments on one post. So if you’ve ever replied with just a “Thank you” or “You’re welcome”, for instance, you can’t use that phrase alone again. In such cases you need to include the original commenter’s name in your reply, to make each reply different.

I see what you say but I’ve used the phrase over and over again on other posts.

Perhaps things are more complicated in your case, because you use nested comments (I don’t), but that doesn’t really change things: some identical past comment is detected, and there’s nothing you can do other than trying to somehow differentiate your new comment.
