duplicate notifications for every response

  • Unknown's avatar

this past week (or perhaps longer) i noticed that every WP site that responds to me as an email or as a notification, is duplicated. Or more. It seemed I was getting a huge number of responses, and I finally realized they were doubling up. It happens now constantly, and pertains even to new sites I ve just joined.
Can you offer suggestions how to change this?

im asking a simple question which no one seems to be interested in answering. Im tired of watching my email folder fill up with hundreds of double and triple responses to comments made on the blogs I follow. I just wanted a bit of help, maybe a suggestion.
    maybe a hug.

    16 hours? is anyone there?

    Hi,
If you don’t get the answer to your question here by WordPress volunteers, you can ask for staff support by tagging this thread with “modlook” (at the right side). However, in order to verify that your question belongs to this WordPress.COM forum and to be able to provide better support, you have to provide the URL of your blog.

my blog isnt on WP but I post at WordPress in other people’s. My own blog is http://mittens-stonesoup.blogspot.com/– the problem is, when I receive notifciations in my email they are all duplicates, two at a time.
I have a WP account, but Ive never been able to figure out how to use it beyond posting at other people’s …

I’m thinking that probably you’ve subscribed to that person’s blog by email (usually there’s a widget in the person’s blog to subscribe by email) and that additionally, since you have a WP account, you’re also following her blog through your WP account. Therefore, you’ll get one notification for your email subscription and another from your WP account. You can try either: unsubscribe from the email notification or unfollow the blog from your WP Account.
    I hope this helps.
It would be helpful if you can provide us the link of that WP account where you’re having problems.

I mean the link of the WP blog where you’re having problems.

yes I understand. You could be right and Im shooting myself in the foot with this. Actually Im subscribed to a half dozen or more at WP, and each time they start a new topic thats a new subscription. What I may do is just eliminate the email notifications entirely and see how that works.
That does make a huge amount of sense.

Part of the problem is that when I say “notify me by email” at a new topic I get a message saying, ” congratulations you just subscribed!” which is probably the way WP scoops up new subscriptions. Ill eliminate the email notifications and start over. and thank you.

  • Hi, can you click on the subscription management link in one of these emails and verify that you have the settings as you’d like them? It looks like you’re following “all comments” on a few sites, which could result in lots of “new comment” emails.

I’d recommend following each post, if you’d like, then subscribing to comments on individual posts if you’re interested in following that post.

thats what im doing now, one at a time. and thanks for the suggestion. I love word press but it is sometimes SO confusing as to navigation…

  • Did you click on the management link in your email? I clicked and just saw a few sites with “All comments” … if you’ll edit those you should be good to go within just a few clicks.

you’re funny. some of those are infrequent posters, not the rapid fire types. One long post and then nothing for weeks. Im trying to sort out which is which. those arent the problem, and Ive pretty much cleaned out the others. We’ll see what happens next time around when I respond. this time I wont click on notify me by email. i PROMISE.

  • Yeah it’s just the ones that were subscribed to all comments on every post that would cause a problem. There were only a few of them, but that would amount to a lot of email. Let me know if you’d like me to log in as you and check again.

thanks, but I think i may have it sorted out now. I appreciate the help though…

  • No problem at all. Take care. :)
