duplicate page titles due to inserted images using same permalink

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I recently subscribed to SEOMoz and the reports came back with errors on my site suggesting I had duplicate page titles. I looked into this and found that at every post where I have inserted a picture, the permalink structure to that picture took on the permalink structure of the post with an additional element, ie:

    Permalink: http://thinkingrules.com/2012/12/08/transcendental-zen-experiences

    and

    Permalink: http://thinkingrules.com/2012/12/08/transcendental-zen-experiences/moment-of-zen

where the second permalink is the media, while the first is to the actual post. As you can see, there is a duplication. I have tried various ways to insert the picture without the duplicate permalink, but have had no success.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Dan

  • Hi there,

We’re having trouble seeing what you’re seeing. Could you link to an image that has a permalink that doesn’t end in the file extension (like, .jpg) and has been modified to match your post URL? I don’t see any images that have been modified as you describe.

    Cheers!

    Hi,

You know, i may be over-interpreting what I’m being shown with SEOmoz. Their data pointed to each image which had been inserted into a post as a duplicate page title of that post, however, the permalink showed that there was an additional /[file name] at the end of each as well. So I’m not sure how that could be duplicate, other than I was told so by SEOmoz. Seems to me that even if the majority of a URL is the same, if there is any difference in it at all, then that is a different page.

The point of this here rant is that I corrected most of what I was told was duplicate yesterday by detaching the photos from the post, yet left some to work on later. And at this point, SEOmoz has identified other duplicate page title issues that are not of this set, and does not show the ones in the original set which I had left to complete. At this point, I am a confused noob and I don’t have anything else to trouble your time with. I suspect the issue is with the reporting of the data at moz, not what’s going on here at WP.com

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience,

    Regards,

    Dan

  • Dan,
