Duplicate Post

I recently edited my introductory post, which I had pinned to the top of my blot. Once I updated it, it also appears at the end of my posts. How do I delete the one at the bottom, which I never even tried to create?

A featured or sticky post will always appear on top of your blog and on its normal place in your blog.

    Hi There,

It seems the post So It Begins“is marked as a sticky post(marked as Featured), so it is appearing on top as well as on the bottom based on the chronological order of the posts.

I also tested this with the Twenty Sixteen(theme you are using) and other themes, the sticky post is appearing twice.

    Hi,

I was able to reproduce this on a test site with Twenty Sixteen applied by setting the number of posts per page fewer than the total number of published posts, AND having infinite scroll enabled. Each of these two settings may be found at My Site(s) → Settings → Writing. The posts per page setting under Content Types and the infinite scroll setting under Theme Enhancements.

Relevant support pages and sections included the following:

    for posts per page setting:

With infinite scroll enabled, every page appears on the blog page on Twenty Sixteen. As you scroll down, you’ll see the page numbers added to the page url. On your site, when I reach the eleventh post from the top on the homepage, the URL changes to page 2. Your first post resides on page 2 (as do several others), and it displays there, as well as being pinned to the top of the homepage as a sticky post.

I believe this is normal behavior, at least on some themes. The same behavior was reported in the topic My posts are appearing twice (in October 2021), on a site using the Chateau theme, so it’s not limited to Twenty Sixteen.

On my test site I found the following:

    1. Disabling infinite scroll prevents the post from appearing twice on the front page, but the featured post will still display in its chronological place in the stream, on whatever page that happens to be. In your case, that would be page 2, with the present posts per page settings and low number of published posts.

    2. For some unknown reason, setting the posts per page at equal to or greater than the total number of published posts, while having infinite scroll disabled, prevents a sticky post from appearing in its normal place in the blog stream.

I don’t know if these effects are theme dependent or not.

I should note that “setting the posts per page at equal to or greater than the total number of published posts” will be quite impractical on most sites. It wouldn’t be practical on sites with more than a few posts.

So the most practical way of preventing it from appearing on the homepage in your case would be to disable infinite scroll. This will result in an Older Posts button appearing at the bottom of the homepage, and at the bottom of each subsequent page. Any post that is marked sticky will appear again in its chronological order in the stream, but given a sufficient number of published posts and the appropriate posts per page setting, it won’t appear on the homepage again.
