Duplicate Post Created

A strange thing happened within the last hour. A duplicate post was created, albeit with a different name. I have a post which consists only of an image of a McCain/Palin button with the title Yes!. I had 20 or so comments on that post. Now on recent comments is a post named McCain-Palin_Button-43. It has one comment. I did not create this post, and I seem to be able only to access it only through recent comments.

    Strange, huh? Any ideas?

The only helpful information I have is that I had made a sticky of my original post. Today I changed that, but the duplicate post was created before I made the change

It’s not a duplicate post, it’s the so-called attachment page (a big mistake in which is that it behaves as a normal page but you have no control over it, e.g. to deactivate commenting). Apparently when you uploaded the image you clicked “Post URL” instead of “File URL” before inserting it into the post.

Go to the visual post editor, click on the image, click the mountain icon that appears, click “Link to Image”, click Update, save post.

Then go to Settings > Media, select Default media links: File, and save changes, so that for future uploads the file URL will show up automatically.

If you don’t want to lose the one comment that was posted in the attachment page, then before doing the above you can copy it, post it in the regular post as a comment of yours, then go to your dashboard’s Comment section and edit it (remove your mail & URL and put “Jim” as the name).
