Duplicated blogs appearing

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi
I was experimenting with static front page etc and ended up with my blogs appearing on my front page, as well as in the custom menu I created. How can I remove them from appearing on the front page, but so they don’t delete from custom menu, many thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks Richard but I don’t have access to CSS as don’t have upgraded version of WordPress. Is there any way one of tech people can assist and edit my site for now, I am doing the blogging101 course.
    Cheers

@jennyf840 – After looking at your site, I’m not certain what it is you are wanting to do. Can you explain a little more clearly?

At the moment, you also have several links in your Custom Menu which seem to go to the same Post.

    Hi Jennifer
If you look on my front page you will see tabs ie Home, About Me, Memoir et. In Memoir is the link to my blog posts. However these same posts are also pinned to my front page but I haven’t selected that option, thanks

The Posts page appears on the front/home page of your site by default unless you create and use a Static Front page instead.

Have you seen this Support doc about using a Static Page as a front/home page? https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

It also explains about setting the Memoirs Page as your blog posts page.

You do not need to add a link to each post under your Memoirs page because while you may only have a few posts now, when you have more it will become a navigation nightmare for your visitors.

Let us know if you need more help with that.

Since you are just setting up house, I really suggest that you take it one step at a time and set up those two pages and your About page and then follow along with the Blogging 101. Have fun!

    Hi Louise,

As Jennifer mentioned you will need to set a front page for your site. I took and look and you set a posts page by not a front page which is why the blog posts are being added to your front page as well.

If you visit Customizer > Static Front Page You’ll be able to select a page to use for your front.

Here is a screenshot of your current customizer https://cloudup.com/iSCghJ7g4Oz

    You’re welcome!

I still suggest that you use the KISS principle and keep your site navigation simple until you have more posts and a firmer grip on what the Custom Menu can do.

For now hang on to the Static Front Page, About Me and Memoirs (but with no subpages) and dump all the other links in your Custom Menu. As you work your way through Blogging 101 it will become much clearer.

Here’s another forum post that may help explain Custom Menus: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/i-have-written-a-post-how-do-i-get-it-onto-a-page?replies=7#post-2365185
