Duplicating a template, for further editing:

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to use the Site Editor # to copy an existing template, so that I can make small changes to it, and even establish dependencies, as my goal # is to have a slightly different experience, for logged-in users, which requires subtle changes, to the user menu. Without this functionality, I will have to make my templates barebones, to reduce the technical load, when I make page updates, but this renders the Site Editor feature, as a whole, relatively useless, and bears most of the load on Gutenberg, and severely limits scalability.

Hello, this is a WordPress.com forum and apparently your site is not hosted here but using the open-source version of the WordPress software at DreamHost
Therefore you can ask for support, directly from them or you can also ask at the WordPress.org forum:
    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

If you want to know more about their differences, here is a little more information:
    https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
    Good luck
