Dyad theme: how to have more posts in the homepage
-
I’m thinking to use Dyad for my blog and I really like the display page that they show – because there are lots of posts in the homepage, one next to the other. But when I try to preview it on my blog, it only shows one post after the other, just one vertical column with bigger photos and texts. I want it to be exactly like the display one… how can I do it?!
Thank you!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I had the same result when I tried to preview the Dyad theme with my primary site, which has an old, retired theme, one which doesn’t have the option of featured images. I do not which factor was most significant (age, retired status, lack of featured images, or something else), but the preview worked fine on a test site with a newer theme activated.

My site automatically converted from showing the beautiful multi-post grid to very large posts in a vertical display.
Seems to me that the mobile version is showing now on the web instead of the multi-block web version.
Can someone check for me? http://hercannalife.wordpress.com/
This happened within the last few weeks. What is the fix? thank you!!

hercannalife – I see your site’s homepage with the grid display, as expected. Could you let me know what browser and version you’re using, what device, and what operating system/version?

But when I try to preview it on my blog, it only shows one post after the other, just one vertical column with bigger photos and texts.
In every test I’ve done on my desktop PC, on various sites of mine with the Dyad theme activated, in each case the preview at the Customizer displays just one post per row (two rectangles, if a featured image is applied) rather than the three posts one might expect from the image at the top of the Dyad theme guide. I think this is what arielfoodie is describing. Also, if no featured images are attached to the post, then the posts appear in the previewer as a column, with the title centered and the text block-centered.
However, the number of posts displayed with Dyad activated in a row of the posts page, whether in the preview or on the site itself, is clearly dependent upon the size of the screen and browser zoom settings. If I zoom out two clicks on Firefox 49.0.2, two posts (four rectangles, with a featured image) are displayed in a row. Two more clicks and three posts (six rectangles) are displayed per row.

This is still referring to the preview at the Customizer.

musicdoc1 now I understand!!
I chose the dyad theme anyway, even before knowing how this homepage-posts thing worked, and after activating it it actually showed two posts in a row (4 rectangles – 2 pics and 2 previews of the text), which was better than the preview anyway. Now I tried to unzoom and it actually shows 3 posts in a row (6 rectangles) which is what I wanted!
The only question is: do I decide to show it that way to everyone or does it depend on the zoom that any user has on his computer – so it would be out of my control?
Thank you for all your answers! -
You’re welcome!

The latter. It depends entirely upon the screen size and browser zoom settings of the visitor, as well as the design and responsiveness of the theme, of course.
Some themes have alternate layout options, but I don’t see any such options for the Dyad theme.

musicdoc1 & Arianna – thanks for clarifying that Dyad’s theme preview only displays one post – I’ve been able to replicate this and have reported it to our developers.
hercannalife – it sounded like you were referring to your live site and not just the Customizer preview. Just let us know if you still need help.

@kathrynwp – I’m using Chrome Version 54.0.2840.98 (64-bit) on my MacBook Air – same as I used setting it up and it worked great until recently. Instead of seeing a grid with more than one image and post on a line, I just see a large image and post on one line then the next one below and next one below that.
This is also true with Safari.
BUT I just tried Firefox and it looks better with 2 images and posts per line.
What browser are you using?
-
Aliza – I see multiple posts per row on arielfoodie’s site (http://f00l4f00d.wordpress.com/) as expected in:
– Firefox 50.0
– Chrome 54.0.2840.98
– Safari 9.1.3On Mac OS 10.9.5.
Could you provide a link to your site running Dyad so I can take a look?
Since this seems browser-specific, could you try turning off all your browser extensions temporarily to see if something is interfering? Also try clearing your browser cache.
Let me know how it goes, and which site is affected. Thanks!

How did you do the homepage? I can only add the category featured not the different articles like in the exaple :(
-
mminterieur – could you please start your own separate thread? It’ll be easier to help you one-on-one there. Be sure to provide a link to your site running Dyad:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/themes – click “Add New” to start a new one.

Found a similar issue on the Edin theme today. In the preview at the Customizer, viewed on my desktop PC/FF browser/default zoom settings, the optional three featured page areas and three widget areas on the Front Page Template display in a column in the previewer. One zoom click out displays them as designed.

Thanks for the reports @musicdoc1!
I suspect (emphasis on suspect) this is happening because of the width of the preview while the customizer menu is open.
Example – Dyad displays a two posts per row starting at a screen width of 1200px. Below that it only shows one post per row.
On my Macbook, the screen is 1440px wide – so I get two posts per row.
In the Customizer, the menu takes up 396px of that space – so the available width for the preview is only 1044px (on my system, mileage may vary for other users). That’s below the 1200px breakpoint, so the preview renders the single post per column.
My approach when previewing grid themes in the Customizer is to change my settings as needed, and then use the “Collapse” link in the lower left to hide the menu (then I can preview in full screen width). After that I can pop the menu open again to make more edits if needed.
We’ll see what the outcome of the bug report @kathrynwp filed is to see if/how this can be addressed :)

staff-loquaciousloon,
Thanks. I suspect that a number of other themes may result in similar issues regarding the previewer, including some of those of the following types:
- Grid-based or tiled format on the posts page
- Portfolio page, Grid page, Homepage, and Showcase page template features that may optionally be assigned to a static front page.
-
Agreed – any arranges content horizontally with a grid or columns will be potentially affected, depending on the widths and breakpoints involved. We’ll take a look at Dyad first on Kathryn’s report to the developers as a starting point :)

We’ve had a look and indeed it seems like Chad’s theory is spot on here.
So if you’re on a smaller screen and open the Customizer, a theme’s tablet mobile “breakpoint” might be triggered, resulting in a different display in certain themes. There isn’t anything we can do to prevent this at the moment, but Chad’s workaround of collapsing the Customizer is a good one.
