Dyad Theme – Moving or Adding Search function to Header
-
Hi! I was wondering if you have the free version of WordPress, are you able to move elements around on a theme? I am building this site because the current recipe site we use to store all our recipes is going away, and so far everything is working out great except that in order to search, you have to scroll all the way down to the footer to get to the search box. Not really a huge issue on desktop, but we mainly access the site through our iphones and that’s a lot of scrolling. Help is much appreciated!
Thanks,
AmandaThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Unfortunately the free version of wordpress is rather limited when it comes to further modifications. If you would like to have access to such functions for free, then I recommend you using blogger. Otherwise moving to wordpress.org would solve your problem but that’s not a free service.

Hello there,
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

Hi there,

We can move things around using CSS, but it requires the WordPress.com Premium Plan upgrade. On certain types of themes, such as responsive designs that adjust for all screen/window widths from large desktop monitors all the way down to phones, moving elements around on a page is tricky.
I would suggest looking for a theme that has a sidebar widget area where you can put a search widget. Another option would be to look for a theme that has a search box in the header area. There are a number of free themes here that do such as the following:
Plane
Edin
Franklin
Sorbet
Pink Touch 2
Radcliffe
Celcius
Lingonberry
BaskervilleAnd more. You can look at our Free Themes in the Theme Showcase and look for the search icon or search box in the header area.
