Dynamic assignment of width and height for images

One problem I run into whenever I change themes is that any images that are full-width end up being the wrong size. For instance, the width of the main column in my current theme is, I think, 637 pixels. When I switched over from the previous theme, I had to go in and manually delete and re-embed all the full-width images, to take advantage of the wider column width.

I realize it would be a coding hassle, but this problem could possibly be gotten rid of by determining the correct width and height for full-width images when the page is called, by the user, rather than when it’s embedded by the author. I assume WP is using PHP, and I’m sure that can be done, even though my skillz (with a z) are not that profound in that area.

    Hope all are well.

Hi. Yes, WordPress.com runs on PHP, but we can’t edit it here.

If you use the self-hosted version of WordPress, then yes, you can edit PHP, but you’d have to ask at http://wordpress.org/support/

I apologize. I didn’t mean to suggest editing it myself. I’m not at that level, which is why I use WP.com, instead of coding my own blog. What I mean is, I don’t have enough PHP skill to know whether or not that’s possible, whether it would make things difficult for them, or not … but that it would be a nice addition.
