Dynamic Blogroll?
-
I love WordPress. I think it’s far superior to Blogspot. But there is one feature that Blogspot has that I really envy.
I go to some of the Blogspot blogs several times a day for one reason — whether I really care about that blog or not. I love seeing the blogrolls there that are instantly updated with the blogs with the newest posts listed up top. I also am aware that I am inflating their traffic stats just because that feature is so convenient.
Could WordPress add that feature to our blogs? It’s the ONLY thing that Blogspot has that I wish we had.
Thanks! :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

timethief, I’ve got it working now. I do have a couple of questions.
How do I get them to automatically order themselves so that the latest posts are always on top — like they do on Blogspot?
Is there any way to get a picture to replace the RSS symbol?

I’m sorry but tha answers are:
you can’t
and not possibleOur blogs here are not free standing like Blogger blogs. This is a multiuser blogging platform and one case of bad script in a widget could bring many blogs down. That’s why there are code restrictions and why we can’t use Javascript widgets like the one you referred to. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

Hi. I think there are two issues here… the WP ‘blogroll’, or Links widget is static. It doesn’t update. However, the RSS widget — which is used for individual links — automatically puts the newest post from the feed at the top, and can show up to 20 posts per widget.
And you can have as many RSS widgets in your sidebar as you like.
The RSS widget can also be modified to show:
item content
item author
item dateShowing the content could be messy, but showing the date of the post, I think, is something close to the Blogspot (thrrrrrpt) option.
The RSS widget doesn’t show the blog icon, but you can use a text widget to put a photo or icon above the RSS widget.
