Dynamic Database
-
Hello,
The company I work for is thinking of transferring over one of our websites to a wordpress site – how does your dynamic database work – does it work with all databases? I am hoping we could transfer over our database as well. The website is VendorGuideUSA.com (I am working on getting more info from our web guy on what type of database it is etc)
Please let me know your thoughts.
Best,

Hi there, WordPress comes in 2 flavors: the fully hosted WordPressdotcom (where we are ) and the open source WP (org) project at https://wordpress.org This support guide explains some of the differences between them: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Here on WordPressdotcom, we run our own version of the WordPress software. Users do not have access to our site’s database.
In order to transfer a site to WordPressdotcom, have a look at this support guide which explains the import process from a number of existing platforms: https://transferto.wordpress.com/
Let us know if you have any other question.

Hello,
Our database is called “MySQL” – will this transfer over well with your database?
Please let me know when you get a moment.

Our site VendorGuideUSA.com is currently hosted by GoDaddy and our database is called MySQL and basically, we are wondering if our database’s info would all carry over easily and be searchable and so forth. Please let me know.

Howdy @shopdinelive, while WordPress.com does use MySQL, you wouldn’t have direct access to your database here. You would, however, have full access if you used your own WordPress.org installation at another host. Just please bear in mind, some of the data will be serialized. Your database folks should be fine with that as long as they are aware. :)
Head over to https://get.wp.com and you’ll find some of our host recommendations. Please also check in with the hosts to be sure they offer direct database access. Good luck!

Oh and I should add, you can install your own copy of WordPress.org at GoDaddy. We just wouldn’t provide support for it here. And, depending on what’s in your existing data or how it’s formatted, you may be able to find some search integrations that would make it more discoverable.
I recommend asking over at https://wordpress.org/support for more details. Cheers!
