E-mail forwarding not using Google Apps
-
I am trying to move from an ADDR site to WordPress. We use ADDR to forward e-mails ((email visible only to moderators and staff), (email visible only to moderators and staff)) to personal e-mail addresses. We have about 25 e-mails. If I understand correctly, if I try to do that with Google Apps, each person would have to create their own google account and then have it forward to their personal e-mail. Is that correct that all the e-mail forwarding couldn’t be managed by me alone?
I would like to move away from ADDR completely, but I can keep it for e-mail forwarding. I saw this page (http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/) that says I can enter a custom DNS record. Does that mean I can keep using ADDR to forward e-mails? If so, how can I figure out how to write the text to do that?
Thank you anyone for advice/help.

I use an email server not with Google Aps – I had to get the MX record info from my old host – then I had to get a bit of help to format the MX records to match the format the WordPress.COM expected in their DNS section – however I don’t know anything about your current email system so beyond the above that it can probably be done I can’t be of much help.

ADDR should be able to provide you with the MX records that will look something like this ( http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/#using-google-apps-for-domains ). Once you have those records you can add them using the custom dns and everything should continue to work as it does now.

Hi Matthusby,
ADDR sent me this:
10 addr-mx01.addr.com.
10 addr-mx02.addr.com.
30 mailI tried adding this to the custom DNS record:
mx 10 addr-mx01.addr.com
mx 10 addr-mx02.addr.com
mx 30 mailBut it isn’t working. Is the record text wrong?
Thanks so much for you help! Jessica -
Hi there Jessica,
This is just to let you know that I flagged this thread for Staff attention. -
Thanks thistimethisspace! It’s actually working now. It must have just taken 24-48 hours to update. Thanks again to everyone for all your help.
