E-mail Forwarding Stopped Working

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello WordPress Support,

    My e-mail forwarding suddenly stopped working. I have checked SPAM folders and WordPress Settings but this did not resolve the issue. For your convenience, I have attached a screencast video and picture to illustrate:

    Please advise.

    Thank you,

    Hi Bradley,

    Frequently, email forwards sent to/from the same gmail box, will not go through. I am going to send an email from a WordPress.com address to the custom domain-specific email address you created.

    The subject line is, “Testing Email Forwarding.”

    Please reply if you did/didn’t receive it and we can look further into this issue for you.

    Many thanks!

    @thatrobyn,

    Thanks for your swift resolution. I received your e-mail, and tested from e-mail accounts other than the gmail account I used as the forwarding term. For all practical purposes, the issue is therefore resolved. Subsequently I tested to see whether this was a gmail issue or a WordPress forwarding issue, and determined it is not a WordPress forwarding issue. Steps taken:

    (1) Change forwarding term to non-gmail account
    (2) Validate non-gmail account
    (3) Send e-mail to WordPress e-mail from chosen forwarding term

    I did this from a yahoo e-mail account, and although when I finished recording the screencast video below, I had concluded it was a WordPress issue likely to be replicated with any e-mail server, just seconds later the e-mail hit with the subject title “Ok … let’s try this again,” (see video and image below):

    VIDEO :: http://screencast.com/t/FwDkw5NO0CG

    IMAGE :: http://screencast.com/t/t51eB79xWAD

    NOTE ABOUT VIDEO :: You can ignore the error message I drew attention to at the beginning of the video, as I was figuring out that when changing your forwarding term, you must re-designate also your WordPress e-mail simultaneously as it is not retained from a previous forwarding setup.

    NOTE ABOUT IMAGE :: You can also see a (2) on the e-mail. I discovered that if you e-mail something to the WordPress e-mail prior to validating the forwarding term, it will still go through once your e-mail has been validated.

    Thanks again for your quick help,

    Hey Bradley,

    I’m glad the email forwarding is now working correctly on your side, and thank you for the detailed testing! That’s interesting to note that the email forwarding will still go through if the email is sent prior to validating. I had no idea!

    Please let us know if you need any additional help with this!

    @Jeremeylduvall,

    My pleasure. Glad it was helpful. Now if I can only get Firefox support to explain my truncated right-click options as quickly!
