E Mail Subscriptions
-
Hi. I would like to provide a “freebie” to my email subscribers, a downloadable file they receive as an enticement to sign up. Do I have to install a plug in to integrate with MailChimp? My widget with wp.com doesn’t seem to allow that step. I see WordPress.org has plugins, but I’m not a geek and I don’t want the extra responsibilities that upgrade requires. Any help will be appreciated, Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. There’s no widget for MailChimp and we cannot install plugins on WordPress.com, but there’s a workaround that could work if you want to use it. See this thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/mail-chimp-signup-form-embed-code-doesnt-work?replies=5
There’s no way on WordPress.com itself to automatically provide a download for users who sign up and there’s no way to have a subscribers-only area. You also can’t see the email addresses of logged in users who sign up to follow your blog via email, as they do that via the Reader and you don’t even get notified when they do that, so sending it manually won’t work either. From the Stats page you can only see the email addresses of non-WordPress users who follow via email.

I already use the subscribe widget and this seems to just duplicate that through mailchimp. So this won’t help me. But thanks for your time.

Everytime I try to subscribe by e-mail to a blog on wordpress.com i get a message that my subscription failed because i have entered an invalid e-mail. I only have one e-mail and it is the one I have always used. What could the problem possibly be?
My blog is: American Liberal Times at:

Are you trying to subscribe while logged out of your WordPress.com account? If you insert your WordPress account’s email address while logged out you will get that error as the system will read it as two people trying to use the same email. If you are logged in and you click on the follow button in a subscription widget it should automatically subscribe you via email – you shouldn’t have to insert your email as well.
The other option would be to follow a blog by clicking the follow button in the black admin bar at the top (again while logged in). Then you can sign up for email notifications for that blog via the Reader: http://en.support.wordpress.com/following/#manage-email-and-im-settings-for-specific-blogs
