Should it take over an hour for a notification to show up in my e-mail?

It is now about 7.30pm
This notification came up about an hour ago and has still not shown up in my e-mail:julespaige

I’ve read all that. And this time it isn’t my phone connection. Which has been fixed – if it had anything to do with the problem at all, which I’m thinking now it may not have in the first place. So …try again, please.
That doesn’t negate or touch on this current issue.
Which is again ‘the not forwarding of e-mails that are in notifications’ and while I think there have been several especially to my gems site that did not get forwarded I didn’t copy them all.
But ‘it’ just happened again with this notification:
(it just switched from 1 hour ago to 2 hours ago while I was copying it to post in this comment. And it is not in my Email. Even after ‘refreshing’.) It is about 8:15pm Sept 21, 2015 my time.julespaige

Oh, I had asked for that forum not to be closed until the problem got resolved. But it got closed anyway. So that is why I started a new one.

Here’s the skinny: I am only getting email from one of my three sites.

https://julesinflashyfiction.wordpress.com/After my last ‘forum’ on this subject they all worked for about a week. And now they aren’t. So it at your end folks. Because I haven’t done anything different and my phone issues have been fixed.
Now I can live with not getting e-mail if you had limitless run of notifications…but you end up cutting them off. What happens if I go ‘dark’ for a few days. I’d never see my notifications if the list got too long unless I end up going to each post. And that would be very annoying.
According to the notifications list this morning Sept.22.15 at about 6:30 am I had 1 notice to gems yesterday, 1 to strands today as well as the 2 that were in my e-mail for today for my fiction site. I am not counting Likes or replies to comments.

I was out for a bit …and am curious as to why I would get two notifications to my ‘gems’ site, but only one e-mailed? And they were both from the same person.
And it looks as if the older notification got e-mailed and the newest one did not.
So to make a correction to the above statement. I apparently am getting Likes, reply responses, e-mails for my Strands, and Fiction sites in the notifications cue, and sporadic e-mail notifications to my Gems site.
*sigh* And no explanations that make any sense or are of any help.

Thanks for letting us know you’re still having trouble. Can you find out whether folks are commenting directly from your site, or whether they’re using the reader or the notification window?

I put out inquiries to the two who posted comments.I did get another notifications for Gems that didn’t get forwarded by e-mail. That came in supposedly 3 hours ago and it is about 6: 15 pm my time.

Here is one response:
“I’m not sure if the “notification window” is what I click on while at my blog (either on dashboard or front page)–at any rate, that’s where I typically Reply to comments. If you mean where do I write comments on Your Posts–I’m at the Reader, I click the comment icon at the end of your post, which I believe takes me to your blog and comment box… Does this help at all? It’s rather confusing to me.”

“I can only guess that we talk about the same thing. I can see my comments in three places; at the post on my site, at the notifications cue/line up on the right of the screen when I click on a comment it hops to the left so I can read the whole thing or I should be able to read the comment because it should be e-mailed to my e-mail address alerting me that I have a comment to a post and then I can open the e-mail and read the comment.”
“Oh, you can also read the full comment when you go to ‘Comments’ and hit ‘Read All’ – you can reply there too. That is when you are in the Dashboard section of your site.”
“I don’t make much use of the ‘WP Reader list’. So I don’t know how that works/ operates.”

OK here is a further explanation from the same person who replied:
‘Yep, the “Comments–Read All” is what I was trying to describe. ‘
As for myself I generally work out of the dashboard area and /or reply directly on others sites. I use the notifications section to answer others replies to comments.

Okay great. So these are coming out of the upper right notifications area, or from the reader. Or the same area on the phone.
If anyone is willing to try commenting while viewing the post from your site, let us know whether that makes any difference.
I’m trying to confirm whether that’s the reason some comments come through with an email notification and others do not.

I would like to clarify what you are asking before I find someone to do this task. I am getting comments from my site e-mailed. So do you want me to ask someone to actually, while I’ve got them ‘with me’ so-to-speak, to try and post a comment from where exactly?
By Reader do you mean the ‘All comments area’ at the Dashboard?
When I think of Reader – I think of that area that is on the Dashboard just to the left of the my sites icon. And that is the Reader that I don’t use. And I just checked it to see if it was in fact what I thought it was which is the listing of sites that a member follows.I’ve gotten three comments to Gems today, but I believe them to have come from the post site ‘page’.
Thank you for clarifying what you are asking. I do appreciate the effort you are putting into this issue.
I do have another question about the change in how at the bottom of a comment area one used to be able to switch to their different sites –
so say if I am at my Gems site but I have just visited a fiction post and I want someone if they click on my icon to get to my fiction site. I used to be able to just go to my various sites that showed up when one clicked ‘change’ but that doesn’t seem to work anymore. That is if they had more than one site… I am not the only one to have more than one site). As that hasn’t worked in a long time, but I’ve learned to just live with that. Is there a forum for that issue? -
I wouldn’t worry about asking each commenter, but you could ask a friend to leave a comment using the form at the bottom of a post, like this one:

I’m going to ask two people to post to that comment via the page site, which you have listed above as well as via the Reader since I think that is where the problem is. I will ask them to time stamp their comment in the post so there is no question as to the time it is posted. And I will ask them to tell where they are posting from so perhaps it will be easier to ID where the problem is originating from.
