Easiest / best approach to make Custom Post Format?

Problem: I like my theme and want to keep using it, but I want to change the blog post format or blog post style. Currently my blog posts are 2-column formatted where the author, gravitar, and tags are in the left column and content is in right column. I want to change this format to a single column where the author, gravitar, and tags are below the post title.

Please let me know what is the easiest approach to do this.

I found a rows and columns-based graphical editor plugin called “Post Custom Templates Lite”. I installed and tried it. The new posts look great in the preview, but when I publish them, there is no change to the format. Maybe the new formatting is being overwritten? I’m not sure.

I’ve been using WordPress about 3 months. I have some coding background, but not in php or web programming. I’m running WP 4.8.1 with the Storefront theme and WooCommerce. I also made a simple child theme to make minor formatting changes. I’m not sure I can write enough php to make a completely new blog post format though.

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Know that WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

We do not provide support for wordpress.ORG software installs. That support is provided at http://wordpress.org/support/

What is the URL of the exact site in question starting with http://?

Are you referring to a site hosted by wordpress.COM or not?

Type the URL in here to determine who hosts the site http://www.whoishostingthis.com/

I’m hosting my site (on hostgator.com). So I guess I should go post this to the wordpress.org support then?

Correct. That site is not on our WordPress.COM servers. You are posting to the wrong support forum to get support for it. Also be aware of who the web host is for your site and contact them directly for any hosting issues.

This is wordpress.COM support. We do not provide support for local installs of wordpress.ORG software, or for wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.
