easiest way for a customer download area

    Hi,
    I am a casual WordPress user and I have a requirement for a site that has a customer login area which works as follows:

    The customer is given a login and password which gives them access to a page which simply gives them a list of downloadable files that they can download for free. These files are only available to those that have been given the login and password. However, I don’t want those users to have any WordPress details or any of the admin/toolbar stuff – just a page with perhaps a menu option to change their password and a menu option to log out, log back in etc and some blurb and then a list of files.
    I have been looking at various plugins (particularly “Customer Area”) but have got my knickers in a twist trying to set them up and am struggling to remove the admin bar and achieve what I want to achieve.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    We provide support only for blogs hosted by WordPress.COM and what you describe is what you can do on a WordPress.ORG software install after you hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/

    WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums.     If you need help with a WordPress.ORG software install in the future and don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there.

    There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.

    None of the WordPress.COM plans allow for a fully fledged membership by registration site, including being able to provide usernames and passwords.
