Easily linking to other of my posts

With the new ‘block editor’ the ability to see a list of previous posts to aid creating hyperlinks has been lost. According to the help info I should be able to type in words from the post titles and it will search and find appropriate posts. Am I the only person for which this simply never works? Is there a free way to use the classic editor? Can anyone recommend a Mac based app which is more user friendly than the current web based block editor?
