make the blogs on word press available to people who don’t have an account. that way the ideas, and community that is created here can be shared my many others. like sharing on YouTube or Vimeo. Make the content accessible to everyone. Only bloggers/ people who have an account can follow or comment but to open the range of viewers to make the website less exclusive would be a huge step up. Also creates more awareness of the website. People want to share their thoughts and words with their friends, even that ones that don’t have an account.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

All public blogs here at WordPress.com are indexed by Google, Bing and other search engines and the content is available to anyone and everyone on the internet.

All it takes to register an account is an email address. That’s hardly a big deal and it can even be a throwaway email address.

    That’s not true.
You can set up email subscriptions by using this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/

If you would like a follow button to appear on the bottom right hand corner of your site for those who do not have WordPress.com accounts see here >

More traffic for your blog with the follow button

No one has to log-in to visit your public blog. No one has to log in to submit a comment. It’s up to you to set your Discussion Settings up exactly as your prefer. This page > Settings > Discussion is where you set up defaults for comments.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/

    Discussion Settings
    Other comment settings
_Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
_Users must be registered and logged in to comment

Note that the prompt to submit and email address and a website URL will still appear but providing an email address and logging in are not required.

You can post instructions for your visitors in a text widget if you wish. That’s easy to do. You copy and paste this into a text widget:

Readers: Note that the email address and logging in prompts do appear for comments on this blog, but providing an email address and logging in are not required.

See here and read about how to set up a text widget. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/

P.S. Do be sure to set up full comment moderation ie. “An administrator must always approve the comment” because anonymous commenting is bound to increase the amount of spam your blog will receive.
