WordPress is a great content management system for an online store, but I’d power it up with some 3rd party shopping cart plugin, or go with a completely standalone solution. I’ve been effectively using a couple of Magento themes from http://www.templatemonster.com/magento-themes.php for about a year, but detailed instructions on how to use the ecommerce extension or plugin to create and manage your online store totally depend on what your goals are and what tools you opt for. I think the best place to start for tutorials on WordPress is certainly WordPress.org.
