ediding a page

  • Unknown's avatar

Editing a page setting seem to have changed recently. I used to be able to copy text from Word and it would paste in OK, now it only pastes in using the default font.
Can I change font size in a page? Can I add spaces between lines. When I add a space between lines and SAVE and then view the preview the space is gone. What is the problem here? Any general tips to help with editing pages would be appreciated For example, I am trying to add event fixtures to a page in my blog and want different sized font and spaces between each fixture

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Changing font style on posts or pages either post by post or page by page
We wordpress.com users can change font styles and colors on our posts and pages, a post and a page at a time. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/

Changing font style and color throughout the whole blog
We cannot access the templates in our wordpress.com blogs and edit the underlying php and html. However, if we choose to pay for a CSS upgrade and undertake CSS editing then we can change font styles and colors throughout the entire blog.

However, this upgrade is not recommended to those who do not have CSS editing experience, as there is no Staff support, and only couple of volunteers choose to expend time & energy on helping others learn CSS editing.

Blog editors are not word processors they work differently. This post explains how to do line breaks, and / or add space between paragraphs in the editor

Formatting text pt. 1: blank lines, alignment, wrap-around, two columns

Thank you for your replies and links. They are very helpful.
Am I right in thinking that you could copy and paste text from Word editor and maintain the font style and sizes once upon a time? Now when I do this is just pastes in at default size and font? Is this correct?

What this all comes down to is using the icon in the editor for pasting WORD into it so wordpress.com software will strip it, and you will gave a post text in the fonts that are declared in the theme you are using.

See row 2 icon number 6 in this support documentation entry http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/

If you don’t do that then you can expect the copy pasted microsoft WORD junk code for their formatting may “come undone”.

If you want to maintain ease of use and formatting options, use Windows Live Writer, which works very much like Word only it doesn’t screw things up on blogs. It is free and also automatically provides an offline backup of every post you make with it.

    @raincoaster

Thanks for this. How does this work? Do you write the post in Windows Live Writer and then paste it into the blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, you can use this free offline editor to create your posts in and yes you can use it to post what your create to your blog. Please use the link, go to the site and read what it says there.
