Edin theme: background image

How do I get the featured image to go into the background like they show in the demo? I feel like most of these themes should really come with a disclaimer.
The demo says the featured image will be behind the text, yet it isn’t. So I imagine there is something more I have to do that isn’t made known to me.

    Hi @kingjaziro,

You need to assign the Front Page template to replicate the design that you see on the front page of the demo site.

To assign a template: Select the option to Edit while viewing your page and then navigate to the Page Options module on the left. You will find the Template dropdown menu from there.

After you have assigned the Front Page template, the featured image will appear behind the text, just as you see on the demo site.

You will also be able to select pages to featured in three columns beneath via the Theme Options panel of the WordPress.com Customizer.

Hope that’s helpful! We also have guidance for getting Edin set up to look like the demo site here (I understand that initial setup can be tricky!):

Is there a way to post pictures or screen shots? What you are saying, or the other directions say, is not at all what happens.

The Page Options (Page Attributes on mine) was in a different language last night. Now it’s in English. So I guess that’s one problem down.

I have two pages: About, The first born crusade.
Only ONE of the pages shows in the Page Attributes, the About page.

The only way I can get the other page to show is by choosing About, updating, then the other page pops up suddenly as an option, but only as a child of About.

The only way I can get the other page to not be a child is to select it, save again, then it suddenly moves to a parent level.

All of this is for naught because now that I can finally choose “the first born crusade” as the page, with default template… it goes back to the beginning, and nothing has changed.

Doing it through WPAdmin, the way the video showed @8:48 seemed to work.

    Hi there,

It sounds like you are navigating our older interface (which can be accessed by adding /wp-admin to the end of your site’s URL) while the steps provided in the theme’s documentation and in my last reply are based on our newer interface (which can be accessed by selecting My Sites in the top left of WordPress.com).

The Page Options (Page Attributes on mine) was in a different language last night. Now it’s in English. So I guess that’s one problem down.

I’m sorry for the confusion that this glitch caused! We’re aware that this comes up intermittently for some users and are working to pinpoint the cause/roll a fix out.

I have two pages: About, The first born crusade.
Only ONE of the pages shows in the Page Attributes, the About page.

“The first born crusade” is a post rather than a page, which is why you’re not able to assign a page template to it. You can copy/paste its content over to a page if you wish to feature it on your front page.

Doing it through WPAdmin, the way the video showed @8:48 seemed to work.

Have you been able to get set up? If so, great! If you have further questions then we’re happy to help too.
