Edin Theme – Blog Archive

Is there an archive list that can be added to the blog page? I’m not seeing it as an option. It just seems that they are listed as they are posted on the main blog page. Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
Is there an archive list that can be added to the blog page?
What do you mean by an “archive list?”
It just seems that they are listed as they are posted on the main blog page.
That’s what the blog page does. The blog page on a WordPress.com site displays posts in reverse chronological order. Unlike an archives page, which is typically a subset of all published posts, it displays all of them.
It is possible to display posts in chronological order, or otherwise ordered, but of the alternatives outlined in the Show your Posts in Chronological Order support page, only altering the publish date involves changing the order on the blog page.

You might be interested in Display Posts Shortcode, which can be customized in numerous ways.

I’m also having trouble with this, see for instance the “Rowling” theme info:
On the left, we have blog posts in chronological order, as we’re all used to.
On the right, there’s a search bar, Categories list and Archives list. This is what Testgestaltblog and me can’t figure out how to add..The ‘display posts shortcode’ seems to influence the left side of my example, the right side is a completely different animal.

@brawlnerd,
see for instance the “Rowling” theme…On the right, there’s a search bar, Categories list and Archives list.
Hi,
Thanks. The search bar and the lists in the right sidebar of the Rowling demo are widgets. See the Widgets support page. The Widgets & Sidebars support page lists the available widgets. Is there an archive list that can be added to the blog page?
Are you referring to a widget that displays posts?

Yes, this seems to be what I need, but I only have footer and front page widgets available in this theme and they are already in use. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Those are widget areas, six of them. There is also a sidebar widget area which displays on the blog page, archives pages, single posts, and on static pages with certain templates assigned. Each widget area may contain multiple widgets.
See the Widget Areas section of the Edin theme guide, which begins:
Edin offers seven widget areas, which can be configured in Customize → Widgets…

Each widget area may contain multiple widgets.
In other words, you may stack widgets on top of each other in any widget area. So there needn’t be just a three widgets in the three front page widget areas, one in each area. You could have two or three widgets in each area, or perhaps two in the left, one in the center, and three in the right widget areas, respectively.

If you wanted to add an Archives Widget to the sidebar of your site, you’ll need to view a page that displays the sidebar to add them.
Open your Customizer, and then on the right hand side of the screen, where you can see your site, click the Blog link in your menu. Now open the Widgets section and you should see the Sidebar option.
An Archives Widget in the sidebar sounds like what you had in mind. You can also add additional widgets to the same widget area, like musicdoc1 mentioned :)
