Edin theme: Formatting of featured pages on front page

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’d appreciate some help with the formatting of the featured pages (grids) on the front page of my website. The formatting looks fine if the text is a simple paragraph on the featured page, but if the page has a list or bulleted list, all the text is “munged” together with no formatting and looks horrible. Note the Services and Contact features.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Go to Edit Page screen for Services page.

    Add the following content in the Excerpts panel. If the Excerpts panel is not visible, enable it from Screen Options at the upper right corner.

    <ul>
    <li>Global area of practice</li>
    <li>Private international law</li>
    <li>International business transactions</li>
    <li>Government compliance</li>
    <li>Corporate and LLC formation and maintenance</li>
    </ul>

    I just picked up five random services, but you can change them to your top four or five services and replace them in the above html between <li> and </li>tags.

    Edin theme will then display those four or five bullets on the front page with READ MORE button. Clicking on READ MORE will display the full content of your page as it is displaying now.

    Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

    Thank you so much! That did the trick. I did not even know about the excerpts option as Screen Options/Excerpt Option are not available in the standard wordpress.com editor. When I went over to the “classic” editor, I could see all that and more. It looks great now, and I appreciate your help. Have a great day.

  • You are welcome :)

    Happy blogging.

    Hi,
    Finally I know where to find that excerpts box :) Thanks.

    I am trying to get that button to work, that “learn more” button on the dianacuevasintlaw.com page.
    Can one of you help me with that?

    Thanks!

  • @andreakrenn1

    Surely. How can I help you with the button on your home page?

    Hi Andrea, here is the code I used for the button on the home page:
    <a href="http://dianacuevasintlaw.com/home/about/">LEARN MORE</a></span></p>

    oops, here it is: <a href="http://dianacuevasintlaw.com/home/about/">LEARN MORE</a></span></p>

  • Unknown's avatar

    Well, I don’t know what i am doing wrong as I used the tick/backtick characters…

    Hi,
    hmmm… what does that mean in terms of CSS code I have to add? On the Edin demo page it says “If you wish to add a button like below, use a CSS class: button-minimal.”
    ???

    Thanks again for your help!

    @admincuevas, use the backtick at the beginning and end of the code, not the “tick”.

    @coupletripstheblog, the CSS for the buttons is already in the theme CSS. What you would do would be to add something similar in the Text tab in the post/page editor to make the button appear.
    <a href="https://yourgroovysite.wordpress.com/about/" class="button-minimal">BUTTON MINIMAL</a>
    The easiest way to do this is to create a text link where you want the button, then switch to the “Text” tab in the editor and add
    class="button-minimal"
    as is shown in the above sample code from the Edin Theme Showcase page.
