Edin Theme: Header help

Hi all,
This is the site I’m working on: chloecotter.wordpress.com
When I put a featured image for my portfolio items so that they show up nice on the main grid page (https://chloecotter.wordpress.com/work/)
The featured image becomes the actual portfolio item pages’ header… I don’t want this because these are not header images! (ex: https://chloecotter.wordpress.com/work/fg-lawns/)
But I’m guessing that this is happening because on my front page, I like the layout of having the header text on top of the header image. So if I have this option, it screws up my portfolio pages as well.
Is there a way around this?

Hi. I looked at your grid page, https://chloecotter.wordpress.com/work/), and it appears that the grid items are children of the “work” page. Each of these have a featured image set and, apparently, a scaled version of the image along with test as the page content — correct me if I’m wrong.
Setting a featured image for any displayed page on this theme will result in its being displayed at full page width (header size) when the page is fully displayed, but not in the excerpts displayed in the grid.
But I’m guessing that this is happening because on my front page, I like the layout of having the header text on top of the header image. So if I have this option, it screws up my portfolio pages as well.
The full width display of your featured images has nothing to do with how the title overlays the header image on the static front page. That page is also a grid template, but the page title overlays the featured image (header) only because that’s what the Edin theme does with the static front page with a feature image.
The “Quick Specs” section of the WordPress page on the Edin theme indicates that “Featured Images for pages are 1230 wide by 1230 high.” You obviously don’t have to use square images, so they can be of any height below 1230 pixels. On my monitor the width of your feature images is 1024 pixels because of my resolution setting.

Question (possible error on my part):
Is “This is my SEO Portfolio Welcome!” the title of your static front page? On my test website, the title of the static front appears in very large and extra-bold header font. If it is the title, I presume you have a custom upgrade, and were able to edit the font and size. -

Maybe I have a new question – how do you set the image excerpts displayed in the grid? I thought I did this through “set feature image” (which did in fact make this happen, but also turned the image into my page headers as well…).
That’s essentially my question. I want to have these image excerpts on the “parent page” : https://chloecotter.wordpress.com/work/ to show a glimpse at what the work is…
But on the actual portfolio item pages, I don’t want to have image headers: ex: https://chloecotter.wordpress.com/work/smart-buy-glasses/

I don’t think you can eliminate that without a Custom Upgrade.

You’re doing it correctly, except that the chosen feature images are not wide enough. They appear in both places, because that is what they are supposed do on this theme: 1. a scaled down image on top of the excerpt in the grid, 2. the full page width image as a header of the full page. The chosen file image used for a feature image should be at least 1230 pixels wide.
