Edin Theme Help

    Hey guys,

So, I recently started a WordPress blog and have gotten everything pretty much squared away. But I am running into an issue on my Static Home Page. When you make a blog entry, it automatically gets updated on the home page, showing the new featured image and excerpt of the article. That’s exactly what I want, which is good.

The problem is that the Home page doesn’t remove the older entry, it just slips it down to make room for the newer entry, and I only want the newest featured image and excerpt to be shown to keep a nice clean Home Page.

Is there a way to only have the most recent blog entry featured on the home page? Everytime I try to take it out, I have to remove the entire blog entry, which is not what I want to do.

My page is at http://cinematicgeek.wordpress.com if you need to look at the layout. Right now I only have the one entry, but hopefully you get the gist of my issue.

    Thanks,

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

I’m not sure I understand where the second post is going when you add a new one. Any chance you can publish one more post so I can see what you mean and check it out? Or do you have a screenshot you can upload to your Media Library that I can see?

    Thanks! :)

    Hey Sarah!

I made a new post for you to check out on my home page.

So you can see where the new post is showing properly, but I wouldn’t want that older blog post just left underneath it continuing to make my home page longer and longer. I only want the newest post shown on my home page and no other blog post.

I can’t seem to figure out how to remove it from my home page, without removing the older entry in its entirety. I hope this makes more sense.

Ah, okay. Thanks for adding that so I could see what you mean. Unfortunately, because of how the front page’s featured area works that change requires edits to the theme code which are not possible here on WordPress.com. (So if you have the Blog/posts page set to one of those, it’ll keep getting longer.)

As a workaround, maybe create an “intro” type page to your blog to use there instead (although that would mean a few clicks to get to the actual blog posts so perhaps isn’t ideal).

Or use something else there, and instead link to the Blog page in one of the menus available to be added at the top of the site.

One note on Menus on Edin:
It defaults to the hamburger menu, so links aren’t visible unless that’s clicked, however you can change that if you want your Blog link to be easier to spot. Under Customize > Theme Options > Menu Style, choose “classic” and it’ll show the links right on the page. You can set your menu to Primary to appear under the Site Title or Secondary to appear at the top right of the site.

Let me know if you have any questions or trouble getting one of these options working! :)

    Hey Sarah,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

That’s a bit of a bummer… I’ll have to see what I can come up with. I appreciate the options and information you have provided.

I’ll let you know if I run into anything else.

You’re welcome! Sorry I couldn’t get it just right, but I hope one of the workaround options work for you. :)

    Hey Sarah!

I fixed my issue. I just utilized a Widget instead to link my featured image and excerpt. It works just the same and it allowed me to control how many posts are shown on the page.

So thank you! I was able to figure it out with following your train on thought on how to go about fixing the page.

    Much appreciated.

    Hi @Kathrynwp

I’m in the edin theme, and I cannot find where to edit the “sidebar text widget”. It says I can edit it in “Customize” but the only widgets that show up to edit are the three footer widgets and front page widgets. Where’s the sidebar? Thanks in advance!

    Lynne

    Hi Lynne,

You need to preview a page with an active sidebar in order to see the option of editing the sidebar widgets.

If you navigate to the Customizer, click on any page with a sidebar from the right preview and you’ll then be able to edit widgets via the Widgets > Sidebar panel.

Hope that helps! Let me know if extra questions come up.
