Edin theme home page text

    Hi,

We have been using the Edin theme for a while and I am in the process of choosing new fonts. The static home page allows text over the top of the featured image.

But I notice that the theme places a semi-transparent darker rectangle on the image (I don’t recall it being there when we set it up), presumably to make the white text stand out better. But the text doesn’t appear over the rectangle!

Can anyone tell me how to achieve that please?

    Thanks.

  • Hi there,

Inspecting the HTML in my browser, it looks like that box is actually the sharing buttons section that’s loading, though I can’t tell why, as you have sharing and comments disabled on your front page.

It looks like it might be related to the Classic Block containing your content on that page. If you convert that to heading blocks, the box also goes away.

Go to Pages ->All Pages, and edit your Home page. Click on the text, and click “Convert to blocks” in the toolbar that appears.

That will convert your text into two heading blocks. Click on each one in turn and change the alignment to Center. Then update the page. That should do it.

Thanks for such a prompt reply!

I have been thinking of converting to blocks (I have done that for two of my own blogs but this one I manage for a friend who writes the posts. So I’ll have to check with him.) But I never thought that might be the way to remove the rectangle.

I could give a background colour to the block in the block sidebar, but that would be solid colour. So I presume I’d have to give it 50% opacity (or whatever) in CSS.

    Thanks again.

  • You can set opacity in the block settings as well.

Click Colors ->Background and click on the bar that looks like a chessboard. That will open the custom color picker, where you’ll have both a color slider and an opacity slider:

When you convert that text to blocks, it will arrange it in two separate heading blocks, as it’s currently added as two heading lines in the page. That will make setting a background tricky.

So I’d recommend changing that into just a single heading block. You can press Shift-Enter to insert a line break inside a heading block without creating a separate block.
