EDIN theme: i cannot reproduce the same layout
-
@koenjongen it looks like you’ve deleted your site, so I’m not sure you will need this, but the best place to start is the Edin info page: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/edin/ It will tell you how to make the features “featured” in the demo work. If you run into specific problems, we are happy to help–it’s better to start a new thread though as adding a new question to an existing thread runs a high risk of being overlooked.

Hello,
@litzthefair I see that you know a lot from this theme. Well I’ve got one big question and I hope you can help me!
For the moment I have a Front Page with my big image and the logo on top, a menu where I put the pages for “About”, and another called “Posts” where are located all the posts I had before changing to Edin (Actually I don’t how I did that, but they are there!).
My question is, at the Demo of the Front Page Template, you see the big image with the title on top, the circled menu, but also under the image you have the introduction to three posts, like a tester of what the user can find at that blog. How can I do that with mine? There is any possibility that the last post of the blog appears in the Front Page?
Thanks in advance for your help
Here is my site http://www.mgluxurynews.comM

@mgluxurynews I believe the piece you are missing is the “featured pages” that would appear between your large main image and your footer.
To choose which pages should be highlighted there, go to your customizer window (you can get there from your dashboard by clicking appearance>customize, or from the front page of your site by clicking on your site name on the left side of the black admin bar and choosing “customize”).
The customize page will load. Then choose “theme options” from the blue menu on the right side of the page.
At the bottom of that menu, you can choose the three pages to be featured. If you want images to appear with the pages, make sure to assign each page with a featured image.
Hope that helps, let me know if you get stuck!
P.S. just for future knowledge, it’s usually better to start a new thread rather than asking your question on an existing thread, even if it’s related. I happened to see your question this time, but new threads get much more attention so the chance of your question being overlooked is greatly reduced.

@lizthefair thaks for the tip, next time I’ll start a new conversation.
It really worked with the featured pages. But now I ask you if I can change the structure: The only thing I want to show are my last (3 for example) posts, so I just need to chose “Posts” in “feature page one”. Now what I have is 5 posts in vertical, what makes the blog ugly, because all the content is at the left side.
There is any way to change this?
Bests,

Hi there,
I’m struggling with EDIN theme. As some members said, my blog doesn’t look the same as the demo (you can see my blog: http://ddnosblog.wordpress.com/).
I’ve been read through this thread and checked the links, but still I need a help. I’d like to use Grid Page Template though, it doesn’t work. I’d appreciate if someone tells me how to do this step by step.
Thanks,
Rin -
@mgluxurynews I’m afraid the spots are really designed to showcase pages, not posts so linking the post page there doesn’t work–as you’ve discovered for yourself. Do you have pages you could feature instead?
Here’s the difference between pages and post if you need it: http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

@noah0908 here’s the go-to page with help for your theme:
http://themes.wordpress.com/edin
In order for the grid page to work you have to create a “main” page and then make all the pages you want to show up on the grid page “child” pages of the main page. The way you do that is to assign the main page as the “parent” to each of the child pages under page attributes.
Also keep in mind that all of this works with pages, not posts.
Note, the reason your site doesn’t look like the edin demo now is that you have your posts set to appear on the front page. The demo is using the “front page” template for the home page.
I hope that helps. If you have any other questions or get stuck along the way let me know specifically where you have trouble and I’ll do what I can to help.

@lizthefair Thanks a lot for the tips, I’ve set the front page successfully.
However, the menus and posts are displayed vertically. Can I make it horizontally, or is it impossible?
Also, I’d like to use menu icon like the demo though, I totally got stuck with it. When I click it, just a red page appears although I’ve set custom menus.
Maybe there are possibly difference of setting languages (I’m using Japanese version), but I’d be happy if you give me some advice again. Thank you.

@noah0908 the problem you are seeing with the images down the right side of the page is because you set your posts page to be one of the featured pages. For some reason that doesn’t work. I’ll start a separate thread about that and see if we can find out from staff what’s up.
As for the menu, it could be that while you set up a custom menu, you didn’t assign it to the primary menu spot. This is a very easy step to overlook. If you go to your customizer screen and click menus, you can check to make sure the menu you created in connected correctly.
If that doesn’t help, let me know and we can troubleshoot further.

@lizthefair Thank you again for your help, now I realized that I’d misunderstood the theme system. I got it now and it’s working pretty good. I appreciate you support, thanks again!

It looks great! Clever workaround on linking the blog to the front page. I’ll share that idea with others who want to do the same.

Hi, Could you please help me produce the same layout as featured on the Edin template? I am having trouble putting text over the image I have chosen.

Hi there… there’s a lot of information that I can get. I also doing the same project with custom template for my web wordpress jual jersey grade ori

Okay, on my WordPress hosted blog, the Edin theme allowed me to upload a file as a “Site Logo”. I have now, at some expense in both time and money moved the site to self-hosting. The only option I now have in ‘customize’ is a text box for ‘site title’, if I add a header image this makes the top border thicker and a header image does not behave as the ‘site logo’ did before I was self-hosted. I’ve spent hours on this and would like it to be confirmed that it is indeed the case that the ‘site logo’ function doesn’t work on a self-hosted site before I bin my site and my expensive self-hosting.
