Edin theme – secondary menu is too big (full screen) on desktop

  • Unknown's avatar

When I expand the secondary menu on a desktop, it shows as fullscreen. It displays correctly on a mobile device. See the site here: https://sanjosecatholicschool.blog/

There are no submenu items in this menu. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

I’m not noticing the difference that you suggest. What do you mean by “fullscreen.” I find that it opens to full-width regardless of the screen size.

I find that it opens to full-width regardless of the screen size.

That statement in my first post is not accurate. For some reason, I had decided to ignore one difference I’d detected. The difference is as follows:

    1. On a large screen, the menu opens from a three-bar icon to a horizontal menu, with a full-width background.
    2. On a small screen, the menu is permanently displayed on horizontal menu with a full-width background.

Is that the difference that you were referring to?

I am not referring to the width. I am referring to the height. I made a change to the css to reduce the height from 100% to approximately 200px.

Thanks for that additional information. So are you saying that on a desktop PC screen the menu originally took up the full-height of the screen when expanded? Perhaps I’m looking at the wrong menu. Where is the “secondary menu” that you refer to in the OP?

When I expand the secondary menu on a desktop, it shows as fullscreen. It displays correctly on a mobile device.

This seems counterintuitive, with regard to the height of the menu, and it’s the opposite of what I found when I first visited your site. One would expect the menu to be taller on a small screen, if the theme isn’t responsive in that way, because essentially the menu is getting squeezed.

The fact that the height doesn’t remain the same on different screens, without customization, may be a design choice, or a design flaw. I’ve called for staff attention to the topic. Staff will respond here.

I’m referring to the header menu in my posts here. Still not sure what you mean by “secondary menu.”

Yes, it took up the full screen height on PC. Edin has primary, secondary and sidebar menus. The secondary menu is the one I am using as the main menu for the site. https://sanjosecatholicschool.blog/

and it’s the opposite of what I found when I first visited your site.

Correcting myself again. Not exactly opposite, what I should have said is that when I first visited your site, two days ago, on a small screen the height of the menu was taller than it was on a large screen. However, I was just adjusting the screen size on the browser on my PC.

Re: secondary menu. Thanks for the explanation. Sorry about that. I could have answered that question myself. : -)

  • Hi @sanjosecatholicschool, if I followed this correctly, it looks like this is resolved, correct? This menu background is only taking up a short area now.

If you still need help, can you let us know what browser you’re seeing this issue in?
