    re: hacked accounts and blogs

If anyone is posting anything to your blog or removing anything from it, or changing anything in it, or if your blog has been deleted and you did not delete it, then it’s most likely that you have provided them with the ability to do so, either deliberately by adding them as official users, or by allowing them access to your login information, or by posting content that makes it easy for them to guess what your log-in information is.

For you the question that needs to be answered is: Who, aside from me, has access to my login information?

Go to your email program immediately and change the password to a very difficult one because that’s how many hackers gain access to blogs.

    Read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/

Change your blog password to a very difficult one > http://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#change-your-password
You can also reset your password via your Settings tab on the WordPress.com home page:
    http://wordpress.com/#!/settings/

Use a secure, encrypted connection to connect to your Dashboard. Under Users → Personal Settings, check the box that says “Always use HTTPS when visiting administration pages, and click Save Changes.

    Use two step authentication http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/two-step-authentication/

Run a security scan on your computer. See here to run a security scan http://geekflare.com/online-scan-website-security-vulnerabilities/

Never leave your computer logged into your blog and walk away from it. Always log out properly.

NOTE: Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner. It is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and a single associated email address, and who is the original Admin of the blogs registered under that username account.

You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard. The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:

    http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

    * You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with the actual blog’s name in that URL.

After the blog’s owner logs in clicking this link should display all blogs registered under the same username account, including the hidden ones: https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs&show=hidden

If the blog’s owner does not see the blog here http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/ then they need to follow this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/#my-blogs-dashboard-visibility

If the log-in information is lost they need to visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

If you do not have the required access you need to contact the person who registered the account and site under it and have them transfer the sites to your username account by using this process. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

If you check each and every possible email address and account and are not successful gaining access to the blog(s) then you must complete the form for account recovery at this link https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery and submit it to the Account Recovery Staff, and provide proof ownership, so they can contact you by email ie. not on these public support forums, which are available to everyone with internet access.

Support Staff cannot breach the privacy policy and provide the log-in information. You have to provide proof ownership to Account Recovery Staff to gain access https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/

If you cannot provide proof ownership to Account Recovery Staff, so they can contact you by email ie. not on these public support forums, which are available to everyone with internet access, then you have reached a dead end.

  • Hi there,

It has been several years since this blog has been touched and it appears that the last changes were made under your username (deleted posts). You don’t have access to certain settings to the account because you are not the owner or admin on the account. I see that you are an editor.

To gain greater access and privilege to the site, you will need to contact the owner.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

This blog is visible under “my Websites”, so if my account was hacked, anybody could Change my role. It is difficult to contact the “modified new owner”

Sorry for confussion but i will try to explain briefly:
I have created with my wordpress account (d……@…..) this blog site to test and to evaluate wordpress.
However i was not looking in the past few years on this blog site.

Somehow it Looks that somebady had Access to this blog site or to my account (i changed of Course immediatelly my Passwort (also 2 way security) , and i was able to delete several other “Blogs” i created for testing purposes.
However this site – which i has creatged (and i was owner) was modified by sombody, by reducing my role (as admin) and now i am not able to deactivate the blog and i see that several spam is sent by this blog and not by me :-(. So my question is:
How can WordPress deactivate a Website which is obviously not under my Control anymore (and WP can see, that there are no activities within this site)?

  • Hi there,

We have an audit trail of every significant update to the blog and it shows that your account was never the owner/admin. You were added to the blog as an editor 5 years ago. Also, there was no transfer of ownership from your account to someone’s account. The account owner/username under the account has been the owner since the blog was created. Do you happen to have another username?
