can’t turn off “edit” function – looks like anyone can edit my posts

Hi there,
The edit button is there when you are logged in to your account in case you would like to edit any of your posts, however if you log out that edit link will disappear. Third parties are not able to edit your posts unless you’ve given them specific permission to do so and they themselves are logged in to the WordPress.com system!

Amighty –
Thanks.
Sorry to be paranoid, but this happens when I don’t log on. I mean all I do is click the link to my blog as found on my publishers website (http://www.delizonpublishers.com/writing-competition-results), or go to hsderkin.com from any computer and there I am at the “About page” and there is the “Edit” button. I can even go to my dashboard never having “Logged On”.Betraying my ignorance here about the interweb, but how would it know it is “me” in those cases? I mean have not “logged in” with my password.
Thanks in advance.

Heya HSD,
Our site tracks your browser session through small files called cookies. These cookies will persist for a while unless you specifically log out by hovering over your image in the upper right hand corner and the click “Sign Out.”
So when you go back to your page from your publisher’s it is still seeing you as signed in.
If you would like to do a good test, you can try opening your page from a browser which you’ve never logged in to your site from (say from Chrome or FireFox, if you don’t use one of them regularly. You can download them from http://browsehappy.com). You should be able to see that the edit link is missing. Of course, you can also sign off from your account and go back to your page and look for the edit link that way to see if it’s present!

OK amighty! That worked. I feel much better. Thank you.
Now… I saw at one time somewhere (on my dashboard maybe?) how to give an “Adult” rating to my posts. Or was it the whole blog? Anyway I would like to be able to give an ‘Adult Content” rating to some of my posts, but cannot seem to figure out how to do that. I am sure, amighty, that you can show me.
I patiently await your instruction.

Hi there!
There is not actually any way that you can mark individual posts as adult or mature. We can mark your entire blog as mature for you, meaning that it won’t be listed in certain places and therefore won’t be quite as easy for young eyes to find.
You may have been thinking of your Gravatar, where you uploaded the image which shows for your username. On that you have to specify the rating of the image.
In any case, let me know if you’d like me to mark your site as mature for you!
