Hi there,
I’m not sure I understood your question. Is there a specific page or blog post on your site where I can see this issue and take a closer look? Thanks for the additional info!

Sir: Thank you for responding. I had to edit in HTML to insert <br> between lines of a poetry piece to not have each line appear as a separate block. I entered “edit as HTML,” made changes, but the option to edit visually did not appear on-screen, the block continued to be show with blue borders. I was not even able to select the block to delete it.
Creating the same page this morning, I had no difficulty. When I encountered the problem – I’d had it once before weeks ago – I exited WP, closed all apps, and restarted my laptop. That did not work on the most recent failure.
But as I said, this morning, the editor functions as I expect it to.
Thank you for your time. spwilcen

As you are writing poetry, did you take a look at the verse block, https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/verse-block/

Hi there,
We don’t recommend editing individual blocks as HTML as you described here. Each block has very specific code it needs to work, and only allow certain types of HTML modifications. So any changes you make to the block in HTML mode has a chance of breaking the block, and it sounds like that’s what happened here.
If you want to write your content in HTML code, you can use the Custom HTML block:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/custom-html-block/
To write poetry, you can use the verse block linked to above, or for anything where you want the spacing to be preserved exactly as you add it, you can also use the preformatted block:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/preformatted-block/
But if all you want are single-line breaks, i.e. line breaks without a blank line inbetween, you don’t need to use code at all. To add single-line breaks, simply press Shift-Enter on your keyboard to create new lines, rather than just Enter.
