edit button not appearing in Pressline when logged in as Administrator
-
I just changed my theme to Pressline, and now I can’t see the “edit” function/button when I view my pages. I can go into “stuff” to edit, but the “edit” link on the pages themselves isn’t there. What am I doing wrong? I prefer to see and be able to click on the “edit” button right from wherever I am.
I hope this makes sense.
Also, can someone please explain in complete layman’s terms what “tags” are? Do they allow other people on worldpress or the internet in general to find your blog if they enter those words in? And once entered, did I understand correctly, that you can’t take them out?

Hello again,
Another theme change https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=18215&page=2&replies=42#post-137649When you cannot see an edit button that is usually a browser issue. Before I type my hands off answering you please tell me which browser and which version of it you are using.

(1) I just tested this out and the PressRow theme does not have edit links on the front of the posts because the designer did not wish to have them. You can either accept that limitation or move to another theme, again.

Rather than moving from theme to theme on a hit and miss basis you could use these theme reviews to ascertain exactly which features do exist on any specific theme http://internetducttape.com/tools/wordpress/wordpress-theme-reviews/

tried both safari and firefox for the “edit” issue, after reading the reviews of Pressrow, one or two people posted that indeed the “edit” function should show up on pages now. But I’m not seeing it.
As for the tag question, I was hoping for real laymen’s terms.
Already read that link and it meant almost nothing to me. But thanks for trying. -
time thief, how about if I ask the tag question this way: why do we tag things in the first place? what is the purpose of categorizing posts? Is it so that others can find posts about what we’ve written about?
-
(1) Safari is a problematic browser. It does not “play” well with wordpress in all cases. The recommendation is to use Firefox or Camino. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/20/im-using-safari-and-i-have-problems/
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=16218(2) Regarding the “edit” function
Volunteers answering forum questions do not have backend access to blogs and cannot apply technical “fixes”.(3) Both tags and categories are used like keywords to find posts. Some people choose to use tags and others use only categories. It’s strictly up to the individual. Technorati and Google pick up both the Categories and the tags so it doesn’t matter if you use one, the other or both.

The information there is written in very simple English at a level aimed at the layman. Perhaps, if English is not your first language you can get someone else to translate for you. -
edit to replace the post above

Yes, English is my first language. And yes, I agree it’s written in simple English. But it’s seemingly written for someone who already understands the general purpose of tags or categories. What you wrote about them making posts visible to Google or Technorat, for example, isn’t really covered on that page. That’s the type of thing I’m seeking to understand. A bit more would be awesome.

Even the title is “the difference between tags and categories”. How about “what are tags” or what are “categories”? Would love to read that page.

Perhaps this will be a helpful way to look at categories and tags.
Think -> library.
Think -> individual book.
Think -> table of contents entries in that book = categories.
Think -> index entries at the back of that book = tags.It’s the subject matter that we assign either with tags or categories that situates our blog posts in the wordpress.com global tag pages, in Technorati and on Google.
Example:
Post title -> Encourage stem cell research in all ways
Categories – Medicine, Science, Research, Genetics
Tags – DNA, stem cells, embryonic researchAs I said before it’s up to each blogger to make category and tag choices on their own. This forum and the contents of the FAQs are focused on addressing issues regarding “how to” use the wordpress.com technology. It’s not focused on teaching “how to blog”.
Hope this helps. :)

I forgot to say that using the internet and particularly Google blog search will lead you to lots of posts where bloggers describe their individual approaches to assigning categories and tags to their posts. Click this link and begin your learning curve by sorting out which results are relevant categories tags site:wordpress.com
Cheers :)
