Edit capability from public page??

Self-identified newbie here. I just went to my new blog as though I was an ordinary surfer, and see that each post gives the (Edit) option on the title line. Surely this can’t be right — can it? Does the blog know that it’s me on my computer?

Also, re: Pages and Posts. FAQs, etc, say that Publish will override Private in the Post Status.I started out with the Private Status. In preparation of going live, I just went in and edited each Page and each Post and hit Publish. The word Private shows up with each post, even though they’re publicly visible. And, none of the Pages show up in the sidebar. I did drag the Pages widget into the activation box. Was I supposed to actually write something in the Pages widget, the way I did for the Text widget?

    I’m using Chaotic Soul. rachelsnyder.wordpress.com

Did you log out before you surfed? :-D)))

And no: people can’t edit your posts. Only you can do that.

Well, duh, no. (Gee, it’s hard to be humble.) But I’m still not understanding why the Posts and Pages that I began in Private Status and then edited to Publish, have not shown up. Is there a similarly no-brainer answer to that? Thanks for your help; you are so kind.

Well, a blog can be private through and through – all posts, all writings. But you can also have private posts on a public blog. Posts that only you can see. So checks the settings for both possibilities.

General blog settings: Options -> Privacy
Posts: “Post Status” on the “Create New Post” page

And check your blogs time zone settings: Options -> general

I’m getting sleepy here. I should have said time stamp settings on the “Create New Post” page.

Everything seems to be as it should now.

I want my blog to be public, and had set that in the General blog settings. In the Post Status, I had set each Post and Page Private as I was just setting up shop and didn’t want anyone yet looking in. Here’s what I discovered: When the Post Status said Private, and I then clicked Publish after existing posts, nothing happened. However, when I first changed the Private status to Draft status, and then followed up by clicking Publish, voila! my Pages re-appeared on the sidebar, and my Posts showed up as they should.

    Thanks for your help, universalgeni!
