Edit colors in my sidebars
-
I have two pages in which I am using the right-hand side bar (the Contact and Testimonials pages). They currently display the default colors from the theme, Motif. I would like to change them to better coordinate with the rest of my pages. Can you help me with that?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello, was mistaken when I said the above CSS code had worked. The background is still not changed. I experimented with the CSS code myself, but I cannot get it to work. Can you please take another look? Thanks.

Hi @maurorganized, I see the following in your custom CSS and the background on the sidebar is white (#fff).
.sidebar-widget-area .widget { background-color: #fff; }The background on the sidebar does look a bit darker than the content area, but I think it is because of the grey text. Try adding a color declaration to the above rule so that the text is the same color as the content area and to me things then look the same color.
.sidebar-widget-area .widget { background-color: #fff; color: #000; } -

Hi @maurorganized.
I know this is not related to your question. But since you site is set up how I would like to set mine up, I wanted to ask you how your did it.
How did you make your homepage to show the one image of the living room and put your blog in a separate blog link? Do I need to upgrade to premium in order to that?
It seems the free Motif, the home page is set up to automatically show the blog.
Thanks again!

You can find out more about setting up Motif on the Motif Theme Showcase page. The demo site for Motif is set up with a static front page and that page is set to the Front Page Template.

Hi foodiehealthstyle, There is a setting where you choose to make your home page static, with your posts on a separate page. The help page for that is here. You don’t need the premium upgrade to accomplish this. However, I found the help available with the premium upgrade to be very valuable. If you need more help, feel free to contact me through my website.

I wanted to say thank you to both @thesacredpath and @maurorganized for taking the time to respond. I followed both of your links and it worked!
Now I have a few last (hopefully) questions and my website set up will be done! I set a page called Home to be the Static Front Page with a Featured Image. I liked how the white text box is embedded within the Featured Image.
(1) Since I had titled the page “Home,” Home is in the title and then I have my text “this is a test” below it. Is there a way to hide the title “Home” so it only has text? It’s how @maurorganized homepage looks like.
(2) How do I hide the testimonials on my homepage and maintain the look?
Basically I’m asking how I can make my homepage look like @maurorganized? ;)

@foodiehealthstyle, since you don’t have the WordPress.com Premium Plan upgrade, your only choice would be to open the home page in the editor and remove the title and update the page.

Ok last question, I promise!
I’m doing a grid page for before-and-after photos. This page I’ve called ‘Photos.’ Then, I created a new page for ‘Client 1.’ I see that a small photo of Client 1 is seen on the Photos page when I put a Featured Image on Client 1 page.
I like how the featured photo looks on the Photos page, but I don’t like how it looks on Client 1 page. Is there a way to keep the small photo on the Photos page without having to put a Featured Photo on the Client 1 page?
I hope that made sense.

Regarding hiding the testimonials, that was done with CSS customization, which is part of the premium upgrade. The other questions you have noted are above my knowledge.
-
@foodiehealthstyle, I think the changes you are wanting to make will require CSS. Since the Client 1 page doesn’t have a featured image right now, and I’m not seeing it on the Photos page, but instead on the main page of your site, I can’t see if what you are wanting is possible.
-
Hi @thesacredpath.
I think I had it set on private so maybe that’s why you couldn’t see. But I have a feeling what I want most likely requires a custom CSS
Here is the photos page: https://foodiehealthstyle.wordpress.com/photos/
You should see client 1 grid box on the page. I like how that looksBut when you click on it and go to the actual page: https://foodiehealthstyle.wordpress.com/photos/client1/
You’ll see the image is HUGE and cut off.So seeing the pages and the look I desire, would you know if it is possible to maintain the look on the photos page, without having to make the featured photo on the Client 1 page with the theme Motif (whether on the free of premium plan)?
-
@foodiehealthstyle we aren’t going to be able to do much with the featured image directly on the page since the WordPress and theme software are actually creating a cropped version of your image, and we can’t edit where the crop takes place (it’s typically center weighted).
We can, with CSS though, hide featured images so what you could do would be to also add that image to the top of the content area in that page and then we would use CSS to hide the featured image once a person got to that page.
