Edit comments with 2.7
-
I can’t seem to find a way to edit comments from the comments module on the left. When I click on it the page is entitled Edit Comments, but I don’t find any edit option.
-
It’s confusing. You gotta move your mouse over the username of the commenter, and a ‘box of options’ appears.
-
Thanks, never would have seen that.
For others reading, when you mouse over the commenter’s name, the options appear at the bottom after the full text of the comment. I don’t have a long one to test, but I’m not sure how you would access the edit options if you had a long post that took up more than the height of your screen.
-
You can also edit comments right off the dashboard (on left navigation bar, marked as ‘Comments’) and follow the same ‘procedure.’

Yes, prior to posing this question, I saw that I could edit from the dashboard. However, I cannot read the full text of a comment from the dashboard until/unless I click on edit.
Request to WordPress: Add the edit buttons to the comments module automatically, without having to mouse over the commenters’ names, so one can read the full comment and edit if necessary.
-
When looking at the comments list you can also double click on a comment to edit it right there without being taken to another screen.
-
Also, you don’t have to mouse over the username. Just move the mouse to the bottom of the comment where there’s a blank area. The options will appear.

Sensuous…..I think it’s more fun to move one’s cursor over their blavatar-gravatar-profile pic-wavatar-favicon; whatever it’s called. Just feels more interactive. See, isn’t it fun how WordPress has allowed us to creatively get out of our confused state (over the dashboard change) in our own clever ways?

I was very happy to learn that I could reply right there from the Dashboard Comment widget. Saved me a few steps.

It’s a learning process: From the comment module, you can mouse over any part of the text of the comment as well to have the edit options appear.

I’m actually a bit annoyed with the comments not being threadable yet. From what I’ve heard, the delay is due to the fact that the themes need to be modified to support this feature. Does anyone know who is modifying them?
My suggestion is that they should release this feature on some themes right now, and then do the same with the others as they are modified. That way we can start enjoying threaded comments right off the bat, if we choose to.
-
They have to modify the themes, then test them in all different browsers and operating systems, then make any additional changes required for specific browsers and operating systems.
As I understand it, their main focus right now is bug hunting and extermination. Once they have the bugs under control, then they will work on adding features.
