edit footer
-
Hello,
Is it possible to remove the “BLOG AT WORDPRESS.COM. | THE HEMINGWAY REWRITTEN THEME.” from the footer of my wordpress.com theme? I have done some searching and I understand the only way may be to transfer the site over to wordpress.org where I have access to the footer.php file. Is this correct? And paying $120 for a guided transfer ensure I can have this level of access?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
The footer credit is required to be displayed according to our terms of service:
http://en.wordpress.com/tos/Note that even sites hosted through our VIP program, such as the TED blog, display a credit to WordPress.com in the footer.
(See the bottom of http://blog.ted.com/ for an example)But as you mentioned if you move to WordPress.org, you do not need to have that footer.
You don’t necessarily need to pay for the Guided Transfer upgrade. You can do it for free. This guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:
But, if you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, Guided Transfer that does all the work for you:

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Thanks so much.
So with the transfer to wordpress.org if I pay for the guided transfer service would they also organise the new host?
I am happy to continue hosting on wordpress once I am on .org. Is this possible or do you have to go to a third party?

That wouldn’t be possible as WordPress.org is a self-hosted platform. Please note that WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two completely separate entities. You would have to choose a new host.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.

Thanks Gracie,
I would really prefer to stay with wordpress.com and the only reason I am looking to leave is because of the footer issue.
Instead of removing the footer is it just possible to change the size of the text that mentions WordPress? Thus allowing me to stay on WordPress.com.
Can I do this by buying the customize theme package?
-
Yes, you can, but the size must remain legible and cannot be made smaller. Do you still want to purchase WordPress.com Premium to do this?
I can bundle in the No Ads and Domain Mapping that you already purchased into it.

The bundle would be $99/year.
So it can’t be made any smaller than it currently is?
No, at this time you cannot make it smaller. You can add to the footer such as adding a copyright with your name after it with CSS (you would need Premium), but you cannot remove it or change the size.
