Edit function – button missing from post – page
-
A few days ago I noticed I can no longer edit a post from the post page. I now have to go to dashboard, open all posts/pages, search for post/page and then edit.
This is very inconvenient compared to how it was. I only had to open the post or page and there at the end of – ‘Posted in Fly, Life, Love, Macro Photography, Meditation, Nature, Photography, Relaxation, Spirituality, Truth? by Mark on 17/07/2014’ “HERE” would be the edit button.
Now, when I open a post or page it appears as if I am not logged in, no edit function on post or page. Plus I just checked comment behaves as if I am not logged in too.
Has something been changed recently? Will it be fixed?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You are using The Journalist 1.3 Theme that was retired already. This theme hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.
Please see this:

Thanks, yes, I know that and I have had many similar hiccups in the functioning of my blog that were fixed along with others issues when ‘upgrades’ were implemented. And I read of more recent upgrades and issues.
I would like to hear from support why when I am logged in at my dashboard I am logged out of any of my posts or pages I open.
And if it will be fixed.

Did you use the Edit link from the post itself or in the Admin bar? FWIW, I just switched my test site to Journalist 1.3 and both links are still available to me, although the one in the Admin bar will only appear when you are in single post view.
Are you using an up-to-date browser? Have you tried logging out, clearing your browser cache and cookies and then logging back in?

Not sure what you mean, ‘from post or admin bar’?
I have only ever used the edit link from the post, it is found at end of ‘Posted in Fly, Life, Love, Macro Photography, Meditation, Nature, Photography, Relaxation, Spirituality, Truth? by Mark on 17/07/2014’ “HERE” which is in a bar across top of post, not across top of screen.
There is an admin bar across top of dashboard page but none (anymore) across top of post page. I have never had (that I know of) or used an edit function in admin bar.
I am using Firefox latest (31.0), cleared cache and cookies, still same issue.
I first noticed issue just before this http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2014/07/29/wordpress-update/ which may be relevant, or not.
Issue is basically I am logged in on dashboard but in any open post or page I am logged out, by virtue of fact I can’t edit, am not recognised in comment box and ‘Follow’ box invites me to … as if I was not logged in.
I don’t know how to say that any other way? :-)

I’m using Chrome36 and here’s what I see when I am viewing a single post from the public facing part of my site, not the dashboard:
https://i.cloudup.com/7B0srglJHt.jpgBut it sounds like this might be an issue with FF31, as there have been other problems with it reported in the forums this past week. Since you say you’ve already deleted your browser cache and cookies, can you try with a different browser?

I had the issue before updating to FF31.
Just tried Chrome and it works like the old way on FF, with a admin bar edit function – cough … :-) Now I have a use for Chrome.
Don’t know what to make of it but it’s clearly not a WP issue.
I do this so rarely I never remember the basics.
Thanks Jennifer, much appreciated.
