Edit icons showing on live site?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m new to WP and have been working with the Visual Theme (Free version). When I view my site online (Safari), the ‘edit’ hyperlink is visible on all posts. Also the theme Customizer button is visible.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Ken

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi, Ken.

Are you viewing the site in the same browser where you’re logged in to WordPress.com?

When I look at it on my browser, they aren’t there.

Maybe take a look in another browser where you’re not logged on to see what the rest of the world will see.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. You’re right – I viewed it on IE and Chrome on another computer and it looks fine.

However, on my Macbook/Safari I still see it.
I made a point to log out of wordpress.com
I cleared my cache and re-loaded the page and am still seeing the ‘edit’ and ‘customize’ links. It’s like I’m still logged in, because when I click ‘edit’ it takes me right into the ‘edit post’ function.

    Hmmm.

After you log out, and visit any page of the site, what do you see in the lower right under “Meta?”

  • Unknown's avatar

Not sure you received my reply – it’s missing from the thread.
Anyway, META items contained ‘Logout’. I clicked on that and everything seems fine now. Thanks for the suggestion!

One other thing – I’m not sure I’m using the VISUAL theme correctly. I am using POSTS instead of PORTFOLIO. Can this theme support a separate blog page? Should I be using ‘portfolio’? I’m having a hard time figuring this out.
    Thanks again!

Glad the logout worked for you.

It looks to me like you’re using VIsual to good effect. Compare your site to the demo here.

    https://visualdemo.wordpress.com/

Here’s some good info on using portfolios, though.

    Create a Portfolio Website

If you choose to set up that content type, you could then have the portfolio page show as the front page of your site, and then have a separate page to show blog posts of other content.

I haven’t used the Visual theme myself yet, so others who have may want to chime in. I’ll have to put it on one of my blogs and play around. :)

Can you please help me with one more item? I am trying to create a ‘Contact’ page, but when I get to the Form Builder, it is empty. Do I have to manually put the text boxes there? I understand I need to be ‘wp-admin’ but still it appears as empty. Your video shows it as being pre-populated with appropriate text boxes and a ‘Submit’ button.
    Thanks again.

FWIW – I just tried building the form using the text box link in the form builder, but there is no way to save when I’m done. So I keep getting the nag box that says “You are about to leave this page without saving” but I can’t do anything about it.

OK – got it working. I just pasted the short code lines into the page builder and everything popped up.

    Try this.

In the page or post where you want to create the form, click on “text” in the upper right of the editing box to switch to HTML editing (instead of visual).

Then copy the following and paste it in.

    [contact-form]
    [contact-field label="Name" type="name" required="true" /]
    [contact-field label="Email" type="email" required="true" /]
    [contact-field label="Comment" type="textarea" required="true" /]
    [/contact-form]

Then publish the page or post.

Let me know if this doesn’t work.

Hey – sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. We must’ve been posting at the same time. Glad you got it to work.

Thanks again, noblewan. I tried your exact suggestion just before you replied. Have a great day.
