Edit Pages Showing Older Revisions
-
Hello,
I would like to report a problem that I noticed last night on my blog, when I went to edit my About Page I noticed that an older Revision (from months to a year ago) of my About Page was showing on Edit Page; but when you look at my blog you see the current Revision.
I checked my Contact Page and Archives Page and they were having the same problem, I tried reverting my About Page to the newer Revision but it would not let me revert to the newest Revision; and so I had to delete all the content and copy and paste the current version to fix this problem on my About Page.
I did not do this for my Contact Page or Archives Page, and so this problem is still there for them if you want to see this problem in real time.
Contact Page:

Edit Page For Contact Page:

Somehow last night all of my pages (hopefully not my posts too) magically got reverted to older revisions under the Edit Page on their own even when I did not change my pages, and so I assume that this is a strange bug/glitch.
So I was hoping that a staff member could figure out what caused this and fix it for me, I am not sure if this problem is happening to Posts too or not, and so maybe you should check into that as well to make sure that this is not effecting/affecting Posts as well.
Thank you,

Hey John Jr!
I’m not really sure what happened there, but I accidentally fixed it while figuring it out. I didn’t see any difference in the About page, only the Contact page. But it should be fine now.
Let me know if you see this again and I’ll take a look (and try not to accidentally fix it before figuring out what happened).

Hello Shawna,
I manually fixed the About Page myself, so that is why there was no different there, but besides the Contact Page there was also a difference with the Archives Page.
Maybe you can look at the Archives Page, if the problem is still there for it, and then maybe you can use that page to help figure this out. ;)
Thank you :) ,

Hah! Sorry, totally mixed up the About and the Archives page when I read your post. I’ll take a look at the Archives. :)

Hey John Jr,
One of our developers was able to track down the issue. We use different databases for storing and editing when you use markdown. The inconsistency is related to this. Do you use markdown? If not, can you go to Settings > Writing and uncheck the box next to “Use Markdown for posts and pages.”

Hello Shawna,
Interesting, I do have Markdown enabled for posts and pages and comments (for those who possibly wanted to use it, even though I am not familiar with it, and if I possibly wanted to use it in the future) but I do not use Markdown directly (maybe accidentally), and so I guess I will disable it for posts and pages and comments to hopefully avoid this.
I am still a bit confused by this (even after reading about Markdown when it was first added to WordPress.com and glancing at the Support Page for it :D , but part of why this possibly happened is because I use the Visual Editor and maybe I accidentally typed something that was considered Markdown), are they going to adjust this to avoid this problem and/or will they add warnings in the future so that people will know about this before/when it happens et cetera to avoid confusion/problems like this?
Thank you (and the developer(s) who helped) very much for figuring this problem out for me. :)

Thanks for doing that! It looks like that fixed it up. We’ve never seen this happen before. But it looks like in your most recent edit, our system thought something was markdown, and so a variable got set a certain way. But since it isn’t actually markdown that broke the editor slightly.
If this happens more often, we’ll definitely look into what exactly is causing that flag.

You are welcome, and thank you for explaining that. :)
That sounds good to me, thank you very much for the help Shawna, and have a good day. :)
