Edit post vs Preview post

    Hi,

When drafting a post I am trying to attach and line up pictures together. In post editor this works fine however when I finish editing and take a look at the preview post (or the actual post), it looks nothing like the version I have been trying to prepare.

I have taken some print screen shots to demonstrate the problem i’m having but cannot attach them onto this query, so if you request them in response i can forward them on.

    Cheers

    Hi Richard,

Can you upload the photos to your Media Library so I can take a look? I’ll be able to provide some more insight and instruction once I see what’s going on!

Thanks. Images uploaded. The specific draft I have used is titled La Vaca Loca!, i dot know if you are able to access it but if you are then by all means take a look to see in more detail what the issue is.

I’ve had problems on other posts as well and i’m getting fed up using a very lengthy trial and error approach to try and sort the problem because the more pictures there are the harder it is to fix.

I’m also having some issues with captions on the pictures. I’m trying to centre them which works fine in editing but on the actual preview and post the text under the pictures seems to shifts to the left!

    Hi Richard!

Thanks for uploading that screenshot and for pointing me to the draft you’re referring to. The issue here is the screen size of the post preview versus the size of the editor. It looks like the images are aligned properly in the editor when you’re setting it up. However, if the screen size grows, the images are then misaligned. Honestly, the best way to overcome this is to use a gallery instead of trying to manually align the images. Instructions for doing that can be found here:

Another alternative would be to use HTML styling to situate the images. The gallery would be a bit easier. Can you give that a try and let me know if it accomplishes what you’re looking for?

    Thanks,

I’ll give it a go and see what happens.

Just a thought, but it would be immensely useful and user friendly if wordpress templates could somehow be set up so that the editor aligns with the preview of the theme. Is there a reason things don’t or can’t work this way at the moment?

    Hey Richard,

In general, they do. The Visual editor tries to mimic how the content will actually look. However, it doesn’t take into account widget sidebars or account for screen sizes. So, for example, if your screen is 11 inches versus a 27-inch Thunderbolt monitor, the image alignment will be a bit different.

Give the gallery option a try and let me know if it works to correct the issue!
