Edit the Comments link

    Hi there,
I searched the previous posts and found no previous queries about this. So here it goes:
Is there any way to change the words in “Comments” after each post? Instead of having just “Comments” are we allowed to insert whatever text we want?
    Thanks,
    Nuno

You may be able to change this with the css upgrade but for sure you cannot do it without the upgrade.

It’s come up before but a simple search doesn’t show any of them. Not a biggie.

You can’t change the wording as it’s hard coded into teh theme. If you were allowed to change them, you would be changing them for everybody using that theme.

Feel free to send in a feedback with this suggestion though.

    OK, thanks a lot.
But why doesn’t that apply to the headers, since we’re allowed to import whatever image into it?
We can change the layout of the blog header, but we can’t change one word?
    Thanks,
    Nuno

This isn’t a matter of debate. It’s the way it is. {shrug} Consider this: if we could all edit our themes and change one word here or there, the result on this wp-MU multi-user blogging platform would be that we would change the blog of every other blogger who had chosen the same theme. That’s the long and short of it and it’s not going to change.

Those who feel that not being able to access and edit their wordpress.com templates is a deal breaker have an alternative. They can hire web hosts and download free blog templates from http://wordpress.org which run on different software so they can be edited without affecting any other blogs.

That’s ok, I was just trying to understand the rationale behind this. It’s a showstopper, that’s all.
    Thanks,
    Nuno

I’m glad you understood the explanation. The construct of a shared blogging platform cannot allow for editing without compromising all other blogs with the same theme.

The blog header is changable because the developers have created a plugin to allow us to change the header image. For them to allow you to edit that one word, they would have to add into the software additional code to allow you to do so. You are free to suggest this to staff via feedback. Staff has stated that they keep track of ideas made via this manner.

The header image sits outside of the main php files and the theme files so it can be easiluy changed. That comment link does not as it exists with the core code.

    It’s a showstopper, that’s all.

Gotta admit that if such a little thing that’s making wordpress.com a showstopper, you would be happier with grabbing the software from http://wordpress.org and finding yourself a host. That way you can edit the theme and the software as much as you want. That’s the point of Open Source software. We’re running a software called wordpress multiuser that doesn’t allow for as much modification done by the end user. It’s more for those who just want to blog and not worry about the underlying details. It’s a two second fix within the theme files to get them to display how you want it. We can’t do that here since the files are shared and you would be doing that for everybody.

Sounds like you would be more happier with hosting with the software and your own site.

This isn’t a matter of debate. It’s the way it is.

Timethief, please don’t come down on the users like that. It’s a valid question. Just because you understand somethign doesn’t mean everybody else does.
