Edit the Home Page

When going to Edit the Home Page, I encounter a window full of code (see screenshot in my Media section). at the ‘Receive new posts to your inbox’
How do I get rid of this window to a form that I can edit the block?

  • Hi there,

The issue shown in your screen shot looks like exactly the same issue I helped you to fix last week in https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/posts-subscription/, and that form looks fine to me at the moment, both in the editor and on the published page. You might need to clear your browser cache again, as you had to do last week.

The Subscription Form block doesn’t have any options you can manually edit, and any attempts you make to edit its HTML directly, will just break the block again, so please don’t try that.

How that subscription form currently appears on your site’s homepage is how it’s supposed to look – logged in visitors to your site will only see a Subscribe button, while logged-out visitors will see a field where they can enter their email address to subscribe.

    Hi,

You are right – it is the same issue that was resolved partially last time. Now I try to close it

First, I clear the cache frequently now. So this is not the source of the problem

Second, I just want to bring the Subscription Form block to its original position (see screenshot in my Media section)

Third, I don’t try and I don’t want to change the code. I stick with the graphic interface only

Fourth, even if an outside visitor doesn’t see it, I see it

    Thanks,
    Jacob

  • At https://simplebutnoteasy70549312.wordpress.com/ when logged in, I see: https://d.pr/i/rv7VZY

This is normal, because it will be using the email address on the account I’m logged in to.

When logged out, I see: https://d.pr/i/m1DBSI

When I try to edit the page, I see: https://d.pr/i/2uE7zV

What exactly do you do, specifically, before it switches to the broke code-like view in your screenshot?

    Hi,

Obviously we see different things when looking at https://d.pr/i/2uE7zV (bty, I see the annoying code window with MS Edge too). I don’t understand how this can be

    Regarding https://d.pr/i/2uE7zV
What I want to do is to see the picture that in my Media section

    Thanks,
    Jacob

  • I can’t really comment as to why you’re seeing something different, we have viewed this a variety of ways and see no problem.

The last time we covered this with you, clearing your browser’s cached fixed it for you, so I recommend trying that again.

As for “What I want to do is to see the picture that in my Media section,” there are several screenshots there, specifically which one and where do you want it positioned?

    Hi,

As I wrote to your colleague, I clear the cache frequently now. So this is not the source of the problem

As for specifying the picture that in my Media section. Since I cannot name them,
There are only two relevant pics, the one that shows the damaged screen and the other one that shows my wishful thinking

Is there another way to send you the picture?

    Thanks,
    Jacob

  • In your Media library, if you edit the image, you’ll see a file URL. Please share the file URL of the relevant image for “my wishful thinking.”

As for the issue itself, would you please try in a different browser, like Firefox or Chrome, to see if that makes a difference for you? https://browsehappy.com/

If not, the overall problem remains that we cannot reproduce the issue as described so far, as you can see from our screenshots.

We need you to describe every step, in detail, that you take in order to break the block.

We will then attempt to reproduce the steps as described in detail to see if we can get the same result. If we can, then we’ll be able to address it, but so far as described, there is no issue for us to fix.

    Hi,

I used two updated browsers – Chrome and MS Edge – and the problem looks the same with both

The file URL of the relevant image for “my wishful thinking” is

    Thanks,
    Jacob

  • Ok, it’s set up as close to your screenshot as can be (it’s not possible to have the subscribe button dropped down below the field).

Here’s how it looks in the editor: https://d.pr/i/d2FTey

On the site logged in: https://d.pr/i/mwlspD (again, no email field is displayed because it will use the email address on the logged in account)

On the site logged out: https://d.pr/i/Zdn9C0

I did not encounter any broken blocks while doing this in Firefox 78.0.2.

    Hi,

    Let’s try to solve this

from a different angle. If I remove the block, what type of block I need to put instead?

    Thanks,
    Jacob

  • The issue with that remains exactly as described at https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/edit-the-home-page-2/#post-3534602

We’ll need what we requested there to attempt to proceed.
